Anna Elizabeth Laube Biography
Anna Elizabeth Laube is a multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, and producer. Her 4th studio album, Tree, was released in the fall of 2016 and debuted at #1 on the Euro Americana Charts. No Depression reported, "As with all of the best singer-songwriters, Ms. Laube can tell a magnificent story with the subtlety of the finest poets...worthy of Joni Mitchell circa Blue."
Born in Iowa City, IA, and raised in Madison, WI, Laube (pronounced "Lau" like "now" and "be" like "to be or not to be") grew up listening to Aretha Franklin and The Beatles. She played piano, saxophone, and violin during her formative years and later studied oboe at the Académie de Musique Grétry in Liège, Belgium, on Rotary scholarship. She picked up guitar along the way, inspired by an Indigo Girls song.
Laube started performing her own songs and soon recorded her first album, Outta My Head, behind which she toured extensively. "Her voice is an alluringly warm, friendly instrument—sweet without becoming cloying, tender and heartfelt and rich," wrote the SF Bay Guardian. Two more records followed, Pool All The Love * Pool All The Knowledge and Anna Laube (recorded right before she started using her full name).
With Tree, Laube continues in her vein of "heartfelt songs rooted in traditional Americana" (NPR). Standout tracks include the jazzy "Sunny Days," the simple piano and vocal ballad, "Please Let It Rain in California Tonight," the sweet, nostalgic, title track, "Tree," and a cover of Beyoncé's "XO."
She is based in Seattle, WA, USA.
