Port Harbour Biography
Hailing from cities across Virginia and New Jersey, and joined together in the small Blue Ridge mountain town of Harrisonburg, Virginia, Port Harbour has entered into the rock/pop foray with ambition, and with their own unique take on the genre. After completely self producing their first full length record “Wake” in September 2014, Port Harbour decided to give up the engineering reigns for their new project, the 8 song concept album, “Take, Keep.” “I’m so glad we did the first album that way, but I’m not sure we will ever do it that way again,” says frontman Taylor Bess. “Having someone else take that role really freed us up to focus on so many other parts of the artistic process that we simply couldn’t focus on with Wake.” The band took their horn laden, piano driven blend of alternative rock to Blue Sprocket Sound, a brand new, state of the art studio built by some Nashville-taught guys who call Harrisonburg home, and into the hands of producer Chris Jackson. This brought their sound to a whole new level. “I’m so proud to say that we didn’t cut any corners,” says guitarist Brandon O’Neill. “We used all the guitars they had in the studio, maybe four different guitars on one song. We spent as much time as we needed to get the best sounds, from mic shootouts on vocals, to drum tuning and retuning, to piano mic placement. Everything you hear is just how we hoped it would sound.” And it lends itself to the best music Port Harbour has made to date. “It’s a story. Each song leads into the next and the whole thing is connected,” says drummer Hunter Glotz. “Every band says this, but it’s the best music we’ve ever made. I think anyone could listen to it and love it.” “There wasn’t any blood that I know of, but there were literally sweat and tears,” Taylor says. “We think this album can change your life, in the same way that music by so many great artists before us has changed ours.” Independent six-piece rock band from Harrisonburg, Virginia.
