Come explore ideas for creating a classroom atmosphere that is respectful and welcoming of children’s ideas and creativity while maintaining a substantive level of instruction. In the quest for instilling a high level of musicianship in our students, it is easy to not plan space in our lesson plans for student input. This session will present open ended activities which invite children to uniquely demonstrate knowledge of concepts within the construct of the “Prepare, Present, Practice” sequence.  Ideas for encouraging children to give input into lessons and songs will also be discussed.  Using movement, manipulatives, visuals, instruments, improvisation, and much more, students will feel empowered to demonstrate their ideas in the classroom and teachers will gain insight into the thought processes of their students.  Students will feel more invested in the music as their ideas are honored and creativity will abound as innovation becomes a classroom norm.
