liberata Biography
Liberata, named after the patron saint of lost causes, is a Baltimore folk/rock band led by
Sinead Fahey (vocals/songwriter) and Christie Macdonald (guitarist/arranger). Sinead and
Christie first met while they were both music students at Towson University. They began to
collaborate on original music and, in early 2016, Liberata was born. After releasing a self titled
EP as a duo in January of 2017, Christie and Sinead decided that it was time to expand their
sound. Bringing fellow Towson alumnis Derek Wiegmann (Bass) and Asher Herzog (Drums) into
the mix, Liberata has grown into a charming yet powerful force among Baltimore’s indie music
scene.
On stage, Liberata fuses comical banter with emotionally driven songs that touch on
personal struggles for a performance that is both witty and relatable. Influenced by their shared
background in jazz, Liberata blends modern folk/rock with traditional jazz elements, blurring the
lines between different american musical eras in a surprisingly cohesive way. “We want to make
music that is accessible on all levels; lyrically, musically, and atmospherically,” Sinead says.
“When people hear Liberata, we want them to feel like they’re just hanging out at the bar with an
old friend, sharing stories and genuinely enjoying the company.” Liberata’s first full length album
is set to be released in Spring of 2018, followed by plans for a north east regional tour and exploring
material for a second album.
