Emily Smith brings her Christmas Show to Reeth after five years of sell-out concerts, mainly in lowland Scotland. The evening will include songs from Songs For Christmas - a beautifully crafted album of original and traditional material drawn from Emily's folk background. The material has been written and collected in response to the popularity of her annual Christmas show. The result is an album of songs that inspire, comfort and celebrate Christmas and the winter season. Forgotten gems such as the ancient Scots Christ Has My Hairt, Ay and soulful American ballad Heard From Heaven Today feature alongside contemporary covers and favourite carols. Smith's songwriting also features with two originals Winter Song and the single Find Hope.
Audiences are invited to join in with singing some well known carols and an occasional (easy to play from your seat) game. Emily's band (multi-instrumentalists Anna Massie and Jamie McClennan) also provide some energetic instrumentals. The result is a unique and family friendly Christmas night out.
Emily's awards include: Scots Singer of the Year 2014; 2008 Scots Trad Music Awards; Folksinger of the Year & Best Traditional Track Nominee at BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards 2012; BBC Young Traditional Musician of the Year 2002.
