Modern Merchant is the musical project of John Parson (vocals/guitar), Jesse Stanford (vocals/guitar), and Sydney Weiss (vocals/drums). Parson and Weiss established the band after meeting in Brooklyn, later bringing on Stanford, whose friendship with Parson can be traced back to rural Connecticut. Both now contribute as songwriters and their unique and powerful partnership is in many ways the guts of Modern Merchant. Weiss is very much the brains; her percussive style pulls from the influences of jazz, funk, and the avant garde. Together they create a songs that are equal parts anthemic, dreamy, and layered - embracing elements of indie rock, psychedelia, dream pop, and electro. Their latest 4 song EP, Virtues, was released on August 28. The Wild Honey Pie - "The vast soundscapes move and twist around, undulating and shifting constantly.
