RBI Biography
R.B.I. formed in Brooklyn, NY in early 2015 when 2 former members of folk-rock quintet “Golden Bones” started experimenting with a different sound, plotting a heavier course through the American musical landscape. As a 3 piece, R.B.I. is led by Mason Hedgecoth (Golden Bones) on guitar and vocals, Evan Lytton (Golden Bones, various NYC acts) on drums and percussion, and Ryan Pearson on bass and backing vocals.
After suffering a potentially devastating medical condition several years ago, principal songwriter Mason Hedgecoth dove back into writing and performing - exploring new sounds, instrumentation, and musical partnerships.
Drawing inspiration from classics (The Allman Brothers, Cream, and Neil Young with Crazy Horse) to contemporaries (Pontiak, Ancient Sky, Dead Meadow), R.B.I. stakes its musical claim somewhere between spaghetti westerns, heavy blues, and psych stoner riffs. No strangers to feedback, fuzzy distortion and a pounding rhythm section lay the foundation for the swirling, psychedelic effects that carry through extended and unique song structures. R.B.I.’s first offering, the Mountain High (EP) was recorded and mixed at KUTCH-1 Studio in June ‘15, mostly over the course of a few days of live tracking, with Nikhil P. Yerawadecker on bass for the recording.
The 5 songs that make up Mountain High (EP) mark the beginning of R.B.I.’s contribution to the lexicon of music about the American experience - a realization that things aren’t what they seemed, the unknown is out to get us, and that we have to get up and do it all again tomorrow. The cassette is being released on Ramp Local, and label led by Tripp Warner and Mike Kutchman. The release date is pending.
