Ben Duke is the Co-Founder and Artistic Director of Lost Dog. He trained at the Guildford School of Acting, London Contemporary Dance School and gained a degree in English Literature from Newcastle University.

Winner of the Dance Critics' Awards 2015 for Outstanding Male Performance (Modern) for Paradise Lost (lies unopened beside me).

Lost Dog, was formed in 2004 with the aim of creating work that is both theatre and dance. The company work with text, live music and movement and blend these elements to create work in which dance is framed by stories and characters.

“We began with an idea and we continue to wrestle with it, to say what needs to be said and dance the rest.”

Lost Dog’s work has toured nationally and internationally, was awarded first prize at the Burgos International Choreography competition, second prize at the prestigious Hanover choreography competition, and has been toured by Phoenix Dance Theatre. Their newest work, Paradise Lost (lies unopened beside me) based on Milton’s epic poem, premiered at Battersea Arts Centre in May 2015.

The company’s previous work Like Rabbits, made in collaboration with award winning writer Lucy Kirkwood and inspired by Virginia Woolf’s short story Lappin & Lapinova premiered at Brighton Festival 2014 and was originally presented as a work in progress at the Almeida Festival 2013.

In 2011 Lost Dog won The Place Prize for Dance with their duet, It Needs Horses. Prior to that the company have created and toured six other full length works which have toured nationally and internationally: Pave up Paradise, The Drowner, The Rain Parade, Salvage and Home for Broken Turns.

As a choreographer Ben has been commissioned to create work for Scottish Dance Theatre (The Life and Times of Girl A), Dance Umbrella (The Difference Engine), and numerous post-graduate performing companies including Verve and Intoto. He has choreographed for projects by The National Theatre of Scotland (Dolls), the Gate Theatre, London (Sexual Neuroses of our Parents) and Handspring UK (CROW). He has co-created and performed in Pave up Paradise, The Drowner, Hungry Ghosts, The Rain Parade and Salvage.

As a performer Ben has worked with Probe, Hofesh Shechter Company, National Theatre of Scotland, the Gate Theatre, Punchdrunk, Maresa von Stockert and the Darkin Ensemble.

Ben was an Associate Artist at South East Dance (2012-2014) and a recipient of the Bonnie Bird New Choreography Award 2011. Ben is a Work Place Artist at The Place.
