Robert Post

His family never owned a telly, in fact Robert never even saw one until he was 8, but they did have a radio and a whole host of musical instruments. His first love was a drum kit but the rest of his family didn't quite appreciate his passion for hitting things very hard and he was forced to learn the trumpet. His natural talent soon flourished and once he had mastered one instrument he quickly moved onto another until he had a whole arsenal of sounds at his disposal. So far so good, we have the makings of a classic multi-instrumental singer songwriter and what subject drives these men of talent to write songs? Girls. Robert wrote his first song, Untouched, at the age of 8 and it was all about a girl in his class that he wanted to snog, obviously they start them early in Norway.

By the age of 10 he had formed his first band. Destroyers combined the twin powers of Norwegian football songs and Kiss covers. Like their heroes they wore black and white face-paint but unlike theirs heroes they were total rubbish. Everyone has to start somewhere and how else are you going to get girls to notice you. Throughout his teenage years he continued on his musical journey, writing more and more songs, playing in loads of bands but thankfully dispensing with the make up. At the grand old age of 15 he released his first album. Just as grunge was at its peak Sissy Dogfish launched themselves on an unsuspecting Norwegian public and they managed to thrash their way through two more albums until Robert decided that it was a time for a change of direction, probably because he couldn't find the words to explain to the rest of Sissy Dogfish that he wanted to incorporate more ukulele into his songs.

For the first time in his life Robert was without a sense of purpose or direction. It was at this time that he tried the multitude of other jobs that were offered to him but how can you pack eggs properly when all you want to do is sing about girls. After failing as a postman (how hard can it be?) and breaking too many eggs he once again turned back to music. He spent all of his time trying to write the best songs he could and planning how he would get them heard by the most important people in the music industry. Its at this point that we hear the magical, and not entirely true, story of how an English A&R man discovered one of the brightest talents when he least expected to.

Robert was driving a taxi to supplement his love of music and fund his demos. On a routine job to the airport Robert picked up the aforementioned English A&R man but was blissfully unaware of his passenger. Sensing that he didn't want another dull conversation about the weather (Yes its really cold here, you are right sir) Robert stuck his demo CD in the taxi's stereo and turned it up loud. The song that was playing was "Got None" and instantly the passenger was hooked.

Before he knew it Robert was signing a management deal with Nettwerk Management, a massive global management company who look after artists such as Dido, Sarah McLachlan, Martha Wainwright and Barenaked Ladies. Its quite simple, everyone who heard his songs were instantly hooked by the boy from Norway who sang melodic, simple, perfect songs about everything from boats to girls but mainly girls. Aided and abetted by his childhood friend, Andreas Karth Roald (bass/guitar) he set about recording his songs. Legendary producer Mike Hedges, who has produced everyone from The Cure to Manic Street Preachers, cleared his schedule to record the album and they even recorded it through the original EMI mixing desk used for Pink Floyds Dark Side Of The Moon.

And that's the story so far a story that looks set to take many more twists and turns.
