The Brunswick
Brighton, United Kingdom
Brighton based indie-folk band The Galleons play a gig with their favourite acts from Brighton and beyond.

Headlining are Seadog, the project of Brighton-based musician and songwriter Mark Benton. Seadog began with Benton at the nucleus of an ever-changing cast of musical friends where each performer would bring their own piece of imagination to the music.

Seadog combine a variety of influences into a myriad sound of lullabies with anthemic electric and acoustic textures.

Seadog's songs come in showers; harmonies ride each sound-droplet with skill, proficiency, and tenderness like the finest of rain-riding adventurers."

..steeped in an era where Nick drake and Neil Young records roamed the landbeautiful and ethereal vocal harmonies."

Your hosts The Galleons play the middle slot following on from their sold out album launch complete with an orchestra and their own ale. Now with added violin the band have been enjoying reinventing tracks from the archive, adding their own touch to a selection of covers and playing tracks from their new album 'The Hidden Colour'. Their music wanders a line between folk and indie stopping off to visit rock, blues and occasionally prog along the way. The songs are often simple and direct but the band also love creating huge musical soundscapes, whilst appreciating the often forgotten importance of a catchy hook .

Indie-folk with substance and maturity and just enough mischief left to elevate them well above the ordinary **** R2 Magazine

Opening the night will be The Sweet Ordeal, a three piece indie folk band who play melodic and bittersweet songs about love, loss, longing and redemption. The themes draw upon the personal and the public: the latter from esoteric real life stories.

Founded in 2012, by John Hamilton and Nick McMaster and joined by Hannah Beaumont in 2015, we play original material on acoustic guitar, ukulele, glockenspiel, cello, bass, keyboard and electronica, alongside different combinations of voice and harmonies.
