Triggers & Slips with Jeffrey Martin & Anna Tivel$15 On Line $20 DoorAugust 11th 7 PMTriggers & Slips: Trigger (n): An event that occurs in an individual’s life which causes significant enough psychological trauma to “trigger” the individual into abnormal behavior.Slip (n): An incident wherein a person veers away from an intended path of behavior by engaging in behavior that he had agreed with himself not to engage in, thereby “slipping” from his agreed upon moral path.Triggers and Slips music is steeped in the psychology of relationships. Like so much great country music that came before, theirs originates in personal mistakes and stepped on hearts. While the band’s music is a blend that’s not quite country and not quite rock n’ roll, and not quite alt-country either, fans of both types of music have come to love their sound. It doesn’t matter if you want to bang your head, sit and cry into your whiskey, or fortify yourself with enough righteous anger to burn down the one that did you wrong’s house after you hacked his email and found out which bitch he was cheating on you with, Triggers and Slips has your number. (written by Brad McCarley)http://www.triggersandslips.com https://www.reverbnation.com/triggersslipshttps://www.facebook.com/triggersandslips/http://www.triggersandslips.com/instagram/Jeffrey Martin:Jeffrey Martin is an American singer songwriter, born in San Antonio, Texas in 1984. While he’s been writing songs since he was in high school, he didn’t begin touring until 2010 when a few chance opening gigs fell his way. Before he ever slept out his car for music, he enjoyed sleeping out of his car all over the country just for the sake of traveling— so the anti-glamourous lifestyle of a touring singer-songwriter suited him well. Since 2010 he has criss-crossed the country with his songs, a few times in an old Isuzu Trooper, and once in a Toyota Camry with which he pulled a homemade wooden teardrop camper. And on all occasions he has his faithful road companion, a yellow lab named Ben. As often as he can he tours with fellow songwriter Anna Tivel who backs him on fiddle and mandolin. When asked whether he considers himself a musician or a songwriter first Martin had this to say: “I’m a writer more than I am a musician. If I could play guitar half as well as I can write I’d be wearing nicer pants.”His music has been likened to the styles of Josh Ritter, John Gorka, and Joe Pug. He grew up on Dylan’s Blood On the Tracks and Young’s Harvest and he remembers when his dad took him to see Leo Kottke and how he was thrown into a trance by the speed of his picking. He remembers staying up late at night with headphones, listening and re-listening to Harry Chapin songs about lost love and lessons learned, and feeling older than he was. http://www.jeffreymartinmusic.com/https://www.reverbnation.com/jeffreymartinAnna Tivel: Anna was raised in the forest and farmland of rural northern Washington and currently calls Portland, OR home. Her songs reflect both the stark colors of small town life, and the hard, sharp lines of the city. Anna’s album, Before Machines, was hailed by No Depression as “raw, yet superbly composed and executed, intelligent, personal and deeply expressive.” Her newest album, Heroes Waking Up, was produced by guitar mastermind Austin Nevins (Josh Ritter, Anais Mitchell, Kris Delmhorst). The album will be released on Portland’s well-loved Fluff and Gravy Records this spring.http://www.annativel.com/

Triggers Biography

Joe Kasler – Bass / Vocals

Rich Kawood – Drums / Vocals

Adam Rousseau – Guitar / Vocals

Brett Zoric – Keyboards / Vocals

Triggers began in the Spring of 2005 when keyboardist Brett Zoric and bassist Joe Salmond were given their walking papers by their current band, Pittsburgh based Monarch (Northern Records). Not wanting to waste any time, the two quickly set about making demos for a new project and looking for new band mates. Fellow local rock band The You ( Pure Tone Music) had also recently done a little housecleaning, ousting guitarist Adam Rousseau and drummer Rich “Woody” Kawood. It seemed only natural for these two pairs of outcasts to join together pursue a new endeavor.

The sound that they would create together would be an eclectic mix of new wave pop, hip-hop infused dance, and straight ahead rock n roll. The wide range of influences among the groups members gives their songs a sense of breadth not commonly found among other bands, while retaining enough consistent elements to give the band a definite unique sound. Triggers have been compared to Elvis Costello and the Attractions, Devo, The Cars, Spoon, and Supergrass among others.

Shortly after the formation of the band, Salmond left to pursue a career in the US military. He was replaced by the group’s mutual friend Joe Kasler, of local math rock heroes Evergreen Movement. Kasler’s strong technical playing ability and approach only strengthened the foundation of the band and added a new perspective to Trigger’s pop focus.

On the heels of their 2007 self-released EP Elude the Suits, Triggers entered Mr. Small’s Studio in the historic north side of Pittsburgh with renowned LA producer/engineer John Hiler ( Liz Phair, Smashing Pumpkins, Danzig, The Frogs ) to record their proper debut. Additional work was completed at the Machine Age Studio across town. The sessions yielded twelve high-energy tracks, which they plan to release as an LP in the spring of 2008. The LP will be preceded by a leadoff single/EP.

Triggers continue to write and play out, both locally and regionally. They have already managed to make an impact on the Pittsburgh music scene, gain significant radio play and attract attention from local press and media personalities. Their upcoming debut LP marks the next step in Triggers’ career and promises to launch them to even greater heights.
