Milian Biography

Maxwell Holland, better known by his stage name "Milian," is a 21-year-old emerging artist out of Michigan City, Indiana. Born August 30, 1993 in Atlanta, Georgia, Maxwell spent the first ten years of his life in the Southern United States before leaving Atlanta (and his father) and moving to Chicago with his mother. After one year on the South Side of the Windy City, his mother moved the family to Michigan City, a small town in Northwest Indiana in 2004. It was around this time that Maxwell began exhibiting his rhyming prowess, though he never took action with it. Maxwell completed high school in 2011, now freestyling with an increased vocabulary and entered his freshman year of college at Purdue University before dropping out and living day-to-day for nearly a year and a half before enlisting in the United States Army as a light infantry soldier in March 2013; he relocated to Fort Benning, Georgia and spent the next five months writing lyrics while learning his way around several weapons systems. Upon completion of his specialization training, Maxwell returned to his life with a new sense of purpose and an increased musical ambition. In early 2014, Maxwell began actually writing acapella songs; he also created his alias "Milian," which arose from all the people mistakenly calling him "Maximilian" over the years. His first acapella In the summer of 2014, Milian met Dalrey Trotter, or "King Dinero" to his fans. Dinero suggested that Milian start rhyming to beats, and that he find a recording studio. After a month of searching, Milian found himself a decent studio and dropped his first studio-recorded track labeled "Stop Me," a remix of Childish Gambino and Nipsey Hussle's "Black Faces." The freshman single received positive national response across ReverbNation. Milian subsequently announced his plans to go into the production of his freshman mixtape, "Outside Looking In," though failed to mention a release date.
