No one has ever been able to craft haunting, existential images quite like "Waiting for Godot" playwright Samuel Beckett. Hear a recital of some of the influential dramatist's short plays set to haunting renditions of works by Franz Schubert -- who, it turns out, was Beckett's favorite composer. The two masters of the bleakly beautiful were kindred spirits in a way, even though they rose to prominence nearly a century apart, and pairing Schubert's music with Beckett's words releases a kind of dark magic that will haunt your dreams. LA Phil Artist-Collaborator Yuval Sharon will direct, soprano Julia Bullock and pianists Wenwen Du and Richard Valitutto will provide the music, and a cast of professional stage actors will perform in this unique hybrid of theater and music at Walt Disney Concert Hall.
