About this concert
21+ / $10 ADV / $12 cash DOS / 9pmMean Jeans’ new album, Tight New Dimension, furthers the band’s absurdist party-punk agenda. The music is tight, Ramones-influenced pop-punk with garage-rock attitude; the song titles are gloriously literal, positing such deep thoughts as “Michael Jackson Was Tight” (about the King Of Pop), “4 Coors Meal” (sure to be the new liquid diet craze) and “Are There Beers In Heaven?” (an existential question everyone will likely face at some point in their lives).Mean Jeanshttp://meanjeans.bandcamp.com/Fire Retarded http://fireretarded.bandcamp.com/Mister Tang mistertang.bandcamp.com

Mister Tang Biography

"The Mister Tang duo was born in a basement in Vancouver, WA., and bred into psych-rock titans who’ve overwhelmed the Portland music scene with their groovy energy. Heavy guitar riffs and bellowing lead vocals, these lo-fi wunderkinds have been playing a multitude of shows and getting the whole city addicted to the Tang. MT is a seance channeling the ghosts of surf-rock past, a sound fit for a bachelor party thrown by Andy Warhol. And if these spry rebels haven’t taken the town by storm already, there’s no doubt in Rip City Review’s mind it’s in their forecast. The youthful vision and enthusiasm of MT is their strongest gift. While many bands may be bogged down with the formalities and technicalities of creating music, the Tang dudes find that good music comes from the gusto of the group, not the shredding capabilities of one. Not only are they making music, but they’re helping other bands make music as well by having their own label called “Citrus Tapes.” They provide buttons, vinyl and cassettes for bands at what many in the music biz would call “dangerously low prices.” -RIP CITY REVIEW http://www.ripcityreview.com/?p=2773&preview=true I sat down with Stone Laurila, Jeff Schultz and Cody Railey at the cozy Pied Cow on Belmont- we talked about Citrus Tapes, what it really means to rock and why Vancouver sucks. "The explosive garage rock group, Mister Tang, has added a bassist to their vessel. The low frequencies float in a deep ocean of lo-fi swells over chartering heavy guitar and "greasy" beats. Stone's voice is a controlled zephyr, curling up on the ends with high and mighty howls and sometimes riotous harmonies. All that drifting psychedelia is dominated by their surfy garage sounds as they blast out mischief and youth. Imagine your own stunts, car chases and running aground on a rocky beach full of crazy kids and you’ll come close imagining their live show." -Brandy@ TheDeliMag Portland http://portland.thedelimagazine.com/14822/mister-tang-record-room-816 "Young and better for it, Mister Tang plays the kind of breathless, gnarly music that a two piece should. They call themselves "a surf garage band" and that's not nearly enough. These kids don't belong under a blanket of prejudgment, they belong in singular moments, spirts, and in heavy guitar tones that are played like the third time you read a dense book." -Bim Ditson (Willamette Week) http://www.wweek.com/portland/blog-30073-bimstagram_april_22.html "We heard rumors about new kids on the block Mister Tang, this was our first time hearing them. And it certainly won’t be our last. (Unless we die in a tragic mosh-pit accident. Which would be awesome). Self-described as a “surf/rock duo”- these guys are underrated and according to RCR’s scientific calculations- about to blow up." -Rip City Review http://www.ripcityreview.com/mister-tang-young-dad-ah-god-a-volcano-backspace/ RIP RIP RIP http://www.mistertang.bandcamp.com http://www.tumblr.com/blog/fuckmistertang http://www.reverbnation.com/mistertang https://www.facebook.com/CitrusTapes http://www.getresurrected.com/ Tangy Rock N' Roll
