He is a multi-instrumentalist. He has also worked as an arranger, producer, programmer, transcriber, teacher, music education consultant, film technical advisor, and last but not least, caretaker of his cat, Sweet Deem. ------ Originally hailing from Newark, NJ, Robbie began electric bass lessons in 1984 at age 9, with local teacher Don Regan, studying the culmination of the years: Heavy Metal, Classic Rock, Fusion, Top 40, Funk, Disco, Jazz and classical, and Jazz as well as transcribing, reading, theory and technique. Robbie and his brother Joey, who played guitar, jammed daily in the their shared bedroom trying out their lessons from the same teacher. At 15, in 1990, Robbie was drafted by Guitar World Magazine to play bass for a band they were producing, simultaneously he got a professional gig playing Italian weddings all over the NYC area giving him his first dose of world music and gig pay, and even more simultaneously he joined his teacher's original fusion band, which he used to expired all his technical practice. He continued the weddings and fusion group for five years entered into NYU in 1993, where he met longterm collaborator Carl Restivo. Robbie and Carl had several crossover influences but in 1993 they discovered the music of Frank Zappa and began writing free and weird music together as Meep and moreso IZ which Carl led and invited to join this group not on bass, but on guitar. This year, 1994, marks when Robbie first started playing guitar professionally, which later shifted his budding bassist career into the background while bringing his guitar self-taight guitar playing to light. In 1998, Robbie was asked to help a band called Project/Object, fronted by a favorite anf legendary ex-Zappa singer/guitarist Ike Willis, for a fill in gig. Robbie was later asked to join this group and thus Robbie started on his first tours of the North America. From 1998-2003 Robbie played the parts that Zappa called "stunt guitar" for Project/Object which forced his guitar playing to further musical realms. He released a solo lo-fi ween-esque album in 2002, which was made up of home studio recordings from 1998-2002. In 2003, he joined the RCA band rock band, Sound of Urchin, to record two albums and tour in North America and occasionally still with Project/Object. While off the road he was teaching and playing live with his bands Wrong, and Old Rugged Sauce. In 2009, Robbie left SOU and returned to bass for two tours with Project/Object. He asked to join another Zappa alumni group, The Grande Mothers, on guitar for several successful european tours which he did until 2012, while simultaneously touring with Rage Against the Machine's guitarist Tom Morello and working as a technical advisor and music teacher for tge production of Soprano's creator David Chase and Steven Van Zandt's movie "Not Fade Away. In 2013, he returned to teaching, and joined local new band Invisible Familiars and joined a psychedelic rock group led by Sean Lennon called The GOASTT which toured North America, Mexico, Europe, and Asia in 2014-2015. Robbie toured with ex-zappa alumni "Banned From Utopia" throughout Europe in fall of 2015 and released a limited edition album of his own music under the title "Full Moon Fever" In 2016, Robbie recorded guitar for the tv show Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll for Denis Leary and FX Network, and was Music Consultant on set for the filming of the show. Robbie is playing classical guitar with a chamber orchestra playing the music of Final Fantasy in "A New World" as well as planning another Banned From Utopia tour in the fall, and is working on another full album release. ------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------- -------------------------------------------- DISCOGRAPHY: Current Production: Family Man - EP Credit: producer, writer, arranger, keys, bass, guitars, background vocals Amandla (Claude Coleman Jr.) - Credit: Guitar. 2015 David Bronson - "Questions" Credit: Bass & Guitar Invisible Familiars - "Disturbing Wildlife", Credit: Guitar and Vocals.
