Gomi Biography

When GOMI first hit the scene, someone deemed them “Arizona’s quality grunge”. The term only scratched the surface of their sound, a better description would be a "Post Grunge band". The rock duo GOMI is influenced by 90's alternative, but hints of indie, punk and desert rock all bubble up to the surface to form a guitar driven hook based rock band. Think liberal dashes of Queens of the Stone Age & Nirvana...with a tongue in cheek party vibe akin to Rocket From The Crypt. With a long history of playing shows coast to coast with local and touring bands across many musical genres such as Local H, IAMDYNAMITE, The Stereo, The Story Changes, Nico Vega, The Action Design, Prize Country, Marcy Playground to name a few, GOMI brings a pro sound and attitude to the stage. Now this "local AZ band" rivals the many touring bands they open up for. Whether listening to their recorded tracks, or being lucky enough to witness their high energy sets live GOMI will be your next favorite band. Visit http://www.gomi.bandcamp.com for all recorded material. A history of the band GOMI Drummer Sean and Guitarist/singer Mark found each other through myspace of all places and formed an alliance through their love of alternative music. It was then that they decided to take Marks catalog of songs from the late 90's and bring them back to life with a new line up. Spawned from the ashes of such bands as The Atomic Hellcats and The Shirkers out of Akron OH, Sean and Mark forged ahead as a DUO basing operations out of Phoenix AZ. In late 2007 GOMI recorded a 7 song demo to help sell the sound to a bass player who could fill out their line up. The guys finally found Slade Nooney to join the band and they recorded and released a full length CD aptly titled “you bet your balls we rock”. After a couple of years as a three piece the desire to tour and commit more time to the band drove Slade to call it quits, so Sean and Mark decided to move on as a two piece. In late 2009 the boys once again headed into the studio to record their follow up EP “Tsunami” with the help of producer Jamie Woolford (the stereo, let go). "tsunami" captured their 2 piece raw live sound and quickly gained local acclaim as the band to hear and see in the area. They soon found their music being featured on radio stations across the country and hit the road to support the solid 8 song effort. In 2011 the boys decided to cut back on shows by playing only locally in Arizona in an effort to spend the year pre producing and recording new material. GOMI once again hooked up with Jamie Woolford to record a 4 track EP in August of 2011 titled “The Less We Say". The new direction gave the band a more polished sound and feel. This time they concentrated on solid song writing and a more complete feel rather than a stripped down 2 person offering. This created a hole in their live sound and they knew they needed to fill out their roster to give the new material justice live. In 2012 Jed Foster from the band "the bittersweet way" joined GOMI full time as a guitarist, adding more layers to the sound and filling out their live deliverance. But there still was something missing and at the encouragement of their producer Jamie Woolford, GOMI once again searched for another bassist to add to the live line up. In stepped Matt Sadler, best known for playing bass with The Andys and Big Moxie. Matt played with the band for the rest of 2012 and the beginning of 2013 but stepped away when it was time for GOMI to return to pre production for their next album. In the beginning of 2013 GOMI once again jumped head first into a lengthy pre production schedule with Jamie Woolford to record a new album together. Taking a break from live shows and taking months to re write and work on the new material, in May of 2013 GOMI headed to Stem Recording in Paradise Valley AZ to record 9 new songs. The new album titled "The less we say, the more we hear...." contains 13 songs, 9 new songs and the 4 songs from the ep "the less we say" re mastered and re mixed thrown together. Once the album was finished GOMI once again started booking shows adding David Bennett from the defunct band DOMO on bass. After a year of medical set backs and side projects, 2015 kicked off with the continuous revolving door of bass players leaving the band spinning once again. David due to lack of passion for playing local gigs and other life changing events decided to retire his green cons. post grunge outfit from Phoenix AZ
