RED BEE Biography

RED BEE are back with intent on their latest release: a 2 track EP entitled “Chokehold / I, Alone”. “Chokehold” will be available as a free download from their Soundcloud page www.soundcloud.com/red-bee on March 4th, 2015. The complete 2 track EP will be available in lossless, high definition format from the revolutionary new website www.openlive.com.au from March 14th, 2015.

Produced, mixed and engineered by Dylan Mitrovich (Breaking Orbit) at Lockup Studios Sydney, and mastered by Matthew Gray (Daysend, Powderfinger), the new material marks a creative turning point for the band.

Bearing their trademark slabs of riffage, insane time signatures and all powerful spine of rhythm, RED BEE have opted for a more organic and expansive sound for both tracks. Diverse and unforgiving, “Chokehold” snarls and intensifies at every turn with surprising light and shade in its structure. Rip-roaring, triumphant and deceiving, “I, Alone” sees the band unleash huge, fresh grooves and their most addictive melodies yet.

This March and April will see RED BEE on tour in support of their ‘Chokehold / I, Alone’ EP, co-headlining a major eastern states tour with TEMPEST RISING, followed in May by a Sydney support for JERRICO.

The 'Chokehold / I, Alone' EP follows the band's almighty debut album, 'Ictus', recorded with Clayton Segelov (Lamb of God, Every Time I Die, Tomahawk, The Angels) at The Brain Studios in Surry Hills.

Since this release in 2012, RED BEE have gone from strength to strength, becoming one of the most technical, melodic and exciting bands the Australian hard rock/prog/punk/metal scene has to offer.

The delivery of Ictus, a hectic live schedule and focused ambition has culminated in them playing at numerous leading domestic festivals including SOUNDWAVE FESTIVAL (Local Showcase Band – Sydney), DEAD OF WINTER and DIMEDAY and supporting Australian bands including SYDONIA, KING PARROT, CALIGULA’S HORSE, and high profile overseas bands including FLYLEAF, MOTHER’S CAKE and PROTEST THE HERO.
Lying somewhere between the fuzzy borders of punk, hard rock, prog and metal, RED BEE is Daniel Silk (vocalist/guitarist), Jim Silk (bassist) and Ian Dunn (drummer.)

Quick to dispense with formulaic rhythms and time signatures, RED BEE creates every one of their songs differently.
An incredibly tight live band, RED BEE is explosive, atmospheric and energetic; they blow the minds of their audiences and leave them with sore neck muscles the next morning.

Funk and groove is injected into the band’s sound amid their odd time signatures and staccato blasts of intricate fury. The vocals coursing exuberantly and aggressively over the top are more akin to bands such as Faith No More and Mastodon than the usual howling or brutal/melodic trade-off.
RED BEE is authentically Australian - both sonically and in their hard-work approach to recording. Daniel’s vocals are delivered with a refreshing Aussie accent - a touch of Frenzal Rhomb’s punk style blended with Cog's anthemic, soulful renderings.

RED BEE are comrades with a purpose to always deliver in spades live and defy expectations; pushing themselves to be more innovative in their pursuit of musical perfection.

“Bang on. Want to put them [RED BEE] on as many shows as possible! :)”
- AJ Maddah, Soundwave Founder & Promoter

“RED BEE are simply a must-see for ANY metal-head, period. They have a very unique sound - something I have never heard before from any band. Combining catchy hooks and melodic vocals with an aggressive, progressive and distinctly METAL sound, their live performances leave you with an experience that isn’t easily forgotten. And they have chops that will leave even the most seasoned musicians speechless.”
- Dearhead Press

“A frantic lightshow set the pace for local gods, RED BEE. They had brought a mass of disciples, the ‘Swarm Troopers’, all screaming, dancing and flailing about. Phenomenal to watch these Blue Mountain’s boys tear it up. Their contagious energy released in a tech/ prog storm is truly something to behold. Giving us a taste of 2 songs from their forthcoming release left us hungry for more.”
- SF Media

“RED BEE put the local Sydney talent on the map, slaying their Stage 4 timeslot [at Soundwave 2014] with reckless abandon. They’re definitely one to watch, and any fan of Tesseract or Periphery should check them out.”
- Mind Equals Blown

“Post-Testament, I caught Blue Mountain’s RED BEE, Sydney’s local act [for Soundwave 2014.] I’ve seen these guys before and they give a power-packed performance leaving no space on the stage untouched. Their set was energetic, with people enjoying the heavy grooves and riffs that they have to offer. The band has a sense of humour and seemed quite at ease, pausing for occasional banter and conversation with the crowd in between songs. They ended their set with the vocalist declaring three parts to the final song: ‘Clean Tone’, ‘Slightly Distorted’ and the ‘Lose Your Effing Shit’ part. There was a good, appreciative crowd enjoying the heavy tunes from RED BEE.”
- Metal Obsession

“As the crowd picked up, so did the energy in the room. RED BEE had the crowd rocking. Fusing punk, prog and heavy rock, these guys put on a tight set.”
- Get Shot Magazine

“I've seen RED BEE quite a few times now and they always deliver high energy performances. Starting off the set by getting in formation and giving each other a fist bump, this three piece started to rip the place apart. With some crazy polyrhythms, catchy riffs, soaring vocals, and pounding drums, they were a delight to watch. They were quite the crowd favourite too with a lot of fans head banging along to their songs and being very responsive to the band. Their sound was excellent as well. They have fantastic energy and can get a crowd moving about with ease.”
