Therianthrope Biography
Best described as “New World Jazz,” Therianthrope is a trio of nylon string guitarist, Dusty Brough, tabla percussionist, Miles Shrewsbery, and violinist, Fabrice Martinez. Although their first album was released in Spring 2014, the initial idea for this group was thought of in between sets at Dusty and Miles’ favorite surf break in San Diego, CA. Soon after the release of their self-titled duo album in Spring 2014 on Avaaz Records, Fabrice Martinez joined the group on violin completing Therianthrope’s unique and compelling sound. Therianthrope’s music is inspired from Indian classical, jazz harmonies, flamenco, gypsy music, killer grooves, and live loops. They unabashedly break down genre barriers while drawing from their own training in their respective music traditions. In their genre-less approach to composition and improvising, Therianthrope creates a brand new musical style: “New World Jazz”.
