The Zen Rebels

The Zen Rebels are an original band, who artfully fuse R&B/funk and elements of power pop with progressive rock. Comprised of veteran Boston musicians Kaedon Gray (vocals), Josh Witmer (guitar), Jay Sullivan (bass/vocals), Mike Carlucci (drums/vocals), Ed Cardenas (percussion) and Vick Lisovskis (saxophone), the Zen Rebels draw their sound from a broad spectrum of influences across many musical genres. That musical diversity is clear in their original compositions born from full band collaboration.  Vocalist Kaedon Gray brings a dynamic stage presence and a soulful delivery that is reminiscent of seminal R&B greats like Donny Hathaway and Bobby Womack. Guitarist Josh Witmer can leap measures with his shred mastery, just cruise on by with clean rhythmic funk or dazzle with his creative effects prowess (sometimes all in the same song). Jay Sullivan provides a funky bass perspective with an ever-present rock edge and adds depth with his rich vocal harmonies. Mike Carlucci sits behind the drum kit but leads the Rebels' charge with his keen musical sense, commanding drum beats and inspiring vocal harmonies. Whether he’s soaring through solos or enriching the rhythm section, Vick Lisovskis’ saxophone adds harmonic color and is elemental to the Zen Rebels sound. Ed Cardenas lends his outstanding percussion skills to add world music sizzle to the Zen Rebels' already unique sound.  The Zen Rebels mission is to create music that tends to go against the grain of songs on heavy radio rotation, but that still has an undeniable hook factor that appeals to music lovers.  The Zen Rebels will be in the studio in the winter of 2015/16 to record their first album.
