The Real Midnight Tour with very special guest Raina Rose Both Allison Russell and JT Nero were accomplished singer/songwriters with projects of their own, but when singing together, there was an unmistakable chemistry. Nero had found the perfect voice for his rock and roll psalms. Russell moved from being a primary songwriter to an interpreter, and her simmering restraint is refreshing in a landscape scorched by post Voice/American Idol vocal gymnastics. Music this raw and soul-rich demands to be experienced live. Birds of Chicago has developed a fervent following, touring 200 nights a year since its formation in late 2012. Come see why Birds of Chicago was the runaway hit at last year’s Worldfest in Grass Valley. Tickets on sale Sunday March 6th at 10 AM. This was not a concert. This was being invited to witness collaborative, genius, soulful artists make magic happen. What a privilege to see these amazing front-women — and the generous, talented musicians who accompanied them — ignite each other with their art and passion. Together they gave voice to deeply personal and widely resonate messages that translate time and culture, yet are so relevant and important for today. So intimate, authentic, empathetic... and somehow still joyous. And the music!!! When I wasn’t grinning, or holding back an “amen”, it was because I’d just had my breath taken away.

Fantastic venue and performance. This band is worth seeing. It was so intimate at cafe Lena and the acoustics were spot on as was their voices and guitar rifts. It was my first time there but I will be back.

They always put on a good show. Was really cute to hear how much tougher it was on them than their daughter to leave her behind. Can’t believe she’s already in kindergarten. Yep, we sorta feel like members of the family.
