PLASTIC SARCASM Biography

Formed in 1978 by lead guitarist Phil Narayan along with Paul Wynne, Phil Tonge and Baz Yates. Plastic Sarcasm played several gigs in and around the Bolton area during Punk Rock era. By the mid-1980s, the punk rock scene was over, and the band had all gone their separate ways. But Phil Narayan had an epiphany, a moment which changes the rest of the story. Phil had still been regularly practising with Chris PLUM Haughton who had joined the band as lead singer in 1980. The urge to enjoy the thrill of playing live on stage once more was overwhelming so the pair set about making the dream happen once again. Plum had by this time learned to play the bass guitar. So in September of 2010 Plastic Sarcasm recruited friend Gordon Connolly as rhythm guitarist. In May 2011 drummer Gag Martin joined them. Finally, Plastic Sarcasm was ready to hit the road. The band played the first gig in over 30 years on 17th December 2011 in there home village of Little Lever in Bolton. All of the old classic punk songs were revived, and the gig was a screaming success. Other equally successful gigs followed, and the band's reputation started to grow.
In October 2013 Scott White (aged only 17 at the time) replaced Gag Martin on drums, then in September 2014, Gordon decided to retire from performing due to other commitments. Enter stage left Tony Brady! Tony joined the band as a guitarist / Vocalist in October 2014, a masterstroke. In November 2014 the group acquired their studios from which to rehearse and record in Bury. Since 2014 the gigs came thick and fast, Plastic Sarcasm has supported former Stiff Little Fingers Henry Cluney and Jim Reilly's new band XSLF. But without doubt, the pinnacle of the band's achievements so far was playing support to former Sex Pistol Glen Matlock.
In December 2018 tragedy hit Plastic Sarcasm when bass guitarist and lead singer Chris PLUM Haughton passed away suddenly. Chris's passing shook the band to its core, but as they say, the show must go on! And that's what Plum would have wanted. Plastic Sarcasm has performed one live gig since Plum passed. That gig was a precursor to a charity tribute night for PLUM which was held on 6th December 2019 at the De Havilland club Gladstone Rd, Farnworth. Close friends of both Plums and the band stepped in taking over the vocal duties, and original band member Phil Tong picked up his bass guitar again after 30 years. Everyone who attended had a great time, the night was a resounding success, with over £1,000 raised and donated to Help for Hero's. The band are now in transition, Phil Tong has rejoined full time, and Gary(holty)Holty has (for now) taken up lead vocal duties and is all but set to join. Plastic Sarcasm's new line up will be back in the studio (as soon as lockdown is over) writing our own material, learning new covers, and brushing up on the old classics.
