Serosia Biography

Few bands of recent memory challenge the listener - while also managing to draw you in with melodic offerings - as much as the fast-rising Serosia, and their new E.P, 'Variables'. Hailing from Dallas, Texas, the band is comprised of Lucas D'Agata - vocals, Derek Troxell - guitars, Joseph Kuban - bass, and Anthony D'Agata - drums. "The best way to describe our sound is emotional and meaningful," explains the group's singer, Lucas. "We are not a love song band, nor do we care about how hard you can party or how many chicks you think you can score. Musically, we are aggressive yet delicate, with a strong sense of detail and vision." And this description is prominently on display throughout such stand out tracks as "Friendly Fire," "The Architect," and "Superposition." Although the band has issued several previous releases ('The Current State of Being,' 'Perspective and Balance,' and 'The Vehicle'), 'Variables' is the group's first proper national release. 'Variables' differs from our previous releases in many ways. For one, this is the first record we have done with a producer along for the ride from the beginning of pre-production (which was 6-8 months in advance of recording the EP) to the end of the final edit. That alone allowed us to explore many areas of ourselves that we had not previously given their proper time. Musically, it is more refined in it's ability to mix aggressive music with emotional and melody driven vocals. This record allows the listener a lot of elbow room when trying to decide what genre it fits into and where it could go from here." And it turns out that Serosia received some wise advice from a gentleman very well known in heavy metal/hard rock circles, Cristian Machado, the lead singer for Ill Nino. Explains D'Agata - "After releasing our first EP, 'The Current State of Being,' in 2007, we were making waves online due mainly in part to constant promotion and also from being one of the first Dallas bands to hit a million unique profile views on Myspace. At some point towards the end of that year, Cris and Laz [Pina] contacted us about how they really dug our sound and the possibility of recording an album with them. They also offered us some very well thought and intricate producer advice on the songs already in place as well." A striking video for the aforementioned "Superposition" is also turning quite a few heads, as well. As D'Agata points out, "Superposition, by definition, is a fundamental principle of quantum mechanics that holds that a physical system - such as an electron - exists partly in all its particular, theoretically possible states simultaneously; but, when measured or observed, it gives a result corresponding to only one of the possible configurations. The song itself is a reflection of this principle, in that the observer viewing themselves will only see the self in which he/she chooses. Throughout the video you can see the band shift back and forth through two possible states. One being the typical form (as seen when band is performing in more typical clothing) and the other being the darker, more intense side of the band (as seen when the band is wearing only black). These changes happen in the same room, giving the impression of both selves existing at the same time in different states. We recorded the video with Abe Moran and it was executive produced by Scott Hansen (Animal as Leaders, Ill Nino, etc.). The video was shot in Hoboken, New Jersey, and was done in one 14 hour straight session!" And the quintet succeeds in translating their far-reaching sound from the studio to the stage, as D'Agata promises "An actual show! Not just four dudes standing around playing meaningless repeated choruses, wearing all the newest fashion crazes. The end result/payoff of all of our efforts is the live show. We are intense and REAL. No choreographed stage moves, just us letting the music speak through our bodies. If there was a single word that could describe a Serosia show it would be, ENERGY."
