Wheaton College Symphony Orchestra Biography
The Wheaton College Symphony Orchestra performs seven concerts a year, and often plays on the prestigious Wheaton College Artist Series, conducted on those occasions by the eminent conductor, John Nelson. In addition, the orchestral tours within the United States, playing at churches, schools, and colleges. Every other year the orchestra plays for over 4,000 children with special children’s concerts held on campus. The orchestra numbers about 85 students, mostly music majors, but also including liberal arts majors. Recently the orchestra hosted one of the nationally-recognized Conducting Workshops of the Conductors Guild, with Daniel Sommerville, the orchestra’s conductor, and Victor Yampolsky as the teachers.
