Kandy Face Biography

Kandy Face is a four-piece rock band from Hamilton Ontario. When it comes down to writing songs solely from emotional feel, Kandy Face is a perfect example; combining a perfect blend of individual characteristics and influences. Band members John Pegg (lead vocals, guitar), Jordan Viaene (backup vocals , bass), and Jesse Rose (drums) have been playing music alongside each other now for seven years. The fourth member, Evan Sagar (guitar), is the most recent member of the band. John Pegg has played in a succession of bands throughout his musical career having worked with some significant people within the industry. At one point John and his band Half a Halo were signed by Roadrunner Records and The Agency Group, and took part in two full Canadian tours. His next band Tenth Planet worked with Jeff Martin of The Tea Party and Mike Turner of Our Lady Peace as their producers on their record “Everything is Never Over”. Kandy Face formed while Viaene was enrolled at Metalworks Institute in 2011 for their Audio Production and Engineering program. Viaene, Rose, and Pegg had been playing with each other for a few years in a previous band but as things started to get serious about music, they decided to form a new group and begin recording their first album together. Recorded around Flamborough Ontario, in Rose’s living room, John’s apartment bathroom and Jordan’s garage, their debut album “Farewell Flamboro”, produced and Engineered by Viaene, was completed over a lengthy period of nearly two years and was released on July 5th 2013. Following their full house CD release party at the Casbah in Hamilton, Kandy Face played consistent shows and performed in many venues across the GTA, Hamilton and surrounding areas leaving crowds behind in awe and amazement of their sound. Common comments heard from the audience were such as that “they belong in a stadium or on a big stage,” or that their music “sounds like a band that has been on the radio for years.” Kandy Face felt very proud to have a few songs off their debut played on Hamilton’s Y108 (107.9FM) radio station. In Spring 2014, Kandy Face released a music video for their song “Grave Place” that they won a second place award for in The Hamilton Music and Film Festival and a first place award for in the Los Angeles Independent Artist Film Festival. Over the winter of 2014, Viaene took online courses from Berklee College of Music to increase his knowledge of the music biz and learn more tricks about recording, mixing, mastering and music production. Over the same winter, Viaene and Pegg constructed their own soundproof control room along with a live floor so that they could have a full-time space to proficiently record and rehearse their music. It was after this winter when Viaene started production on their second album titled “Stupid Famous”. After nearly a year and a half, Kandy Face released their second album, produced and engineered by Viaene, on September 20th 2015. The quality production on the album far surpassed their first album and Kandy Face is extremely excited and eager to break into the music industry with their new and improved sound. The incredibly talented Evan Sagar joined Kandy Face in May 2015 after the album was finished tracking. The term “dedication” is an understatement for Kandy Face as they have devoted a vast amount of their time and energy to grow as a band and write their music independently over the lifetime of their involvement. Music is much more than a hobby for them, it consumes them and is the very one thing they all truly live for. The constant push, progression and recording process is continually sharpening the bands act and there is no doubt anyone still interested in genuine rock music will be bound to show a major interest.
