The Energy Commission Biography

Maybe it's being arrested for singing a protest song and riding a bicycle up the side of a fucking mountain. That seems like something I should write about in a bio. Maybe it's being on Xbox Live's Gamer Spotlight or featured on Wired.com for having some self-produced viral music videos. Those seem like achievements I should highlight. Maybe it's Danielle being a stone cold fox with evocative vocals, Josva getting sponsored by Spector Bass, or the addition of an accomplished live painter and two "Fabalous" hype girls. Maybe it's the clubs we've played in Chicago... the Tonic Room, Elbo Room, Sub-T and headlining I Am Fest at the House of Blues in Chicago. But those are just details, bullet points on a resume. Something else has the Energy Commission at a fever pitch. Something else has us pulling up 3,4,5 buses deep to headline The Double Door, Cubby Bear, and Metro. I would like to think it has to do with the genre-bending range of our music - this "Mystery Pop",1940's inspired swing with Dubstep Hip Hop and Funk infused Folk. But it's not just about the music. It's about a full sensory experience. It's not what we do (read shred like virtuosos or paint like the masters), but why we do it. We leave constraints of genre and even the boundaries of being "just a band" behind to respond to the human condition. To communicate and inspire. To remind each other that we aren't alone. We aren't holier than thou, nose in the sky artists. Every stage has been earned not by us, but by our "Commissioners". So if I were to highlight our sense of humor in our successful Kickstarter campaign and being the "Fittest Band in the World", our playing kickball with our friends and giving paintings away at the show, or our inviting people on stage to say the least manly thing they've ever done; you might not be impressed by chest puffing factoids. Yet this is where all of the magic is, in the unrehearsed but honest exchange we have with our audience. Our story is about our "Commissioners". Every show they help us create a constant positive energy feedback loop. Filling up "Beer Buses" and garbage bags full of pee sometimes, we leave the mundane and forget about social separations and party our asses off. If you came on as a stranger you leave as a friend. There's more than corn in Indiana, there's a "Sea of Pink". I owe it to these people, those who "Bleed Pink" with tattoos of our logo on their skin and an E shaved into the side of their head. I owe it to them to let the reader know where we get our fuel. Our fans are the show! Check out @ http://theEnergyCommission.com OR http://twitter.com/jaygotgame http://twitter.com/daniellecales
