Storie Devereaux Biography

Critically noted a lyrically gifted songwriter and talented Spoken Word Artist Chicago native Storie Devereaux has been known to embody the name she denotes. Using monologue style performances, she takes her audience through a journey of story telling using her freedom of self-expression, and rhythmic cadences infused with Neo-Soul, Jazz, and Hip-Hop Soul. Storie’s music resume stems from the age of 16 singing 2nd Alto w/ the Cotton Blossom Singers at the Piney Woods Country Life School in Florence, Mississippi. Traveling places such as Biloxi, Mississippi she would perform national choir competitions for which the school was widely know for her and was named “Best In Class”. She would also perform local showcases on and off campus where she was also able to display her love for poetry and become an avid player of the Blues Harp (Harmonica). Back in Chicago, she became familiar with the Spoken Word scene as a young featured Artist at Chicago’s Jazz and Java hosted Art Simms in the historic Bronzeville community. With a career budding in the Performing Arts she had began performing local venues and landed a feature on the main stage of the Martin’s Inter-Cultural African-Caribbean Festival in Chicago where she held a spot for 4 consecutive years. From there she began creating a buzz and was playing Spoken Word showcases as a featured Artist at popular venues, placing first place in several talent competitions and competing in Poetry slams in and around the city while attending Columbia College Chicago. Storie is also an advocate for community service serving as the Creative Director for a non-for-profit organization, Full Divine Enterprise in 2008. Organizations would provide platforms and showcases to inner city youth displaying their unique talents and gifts. The organization also provided a number of mentoring programs, coaching tools and resources to aid in future goal planning. Other charitable contributions include performances for Women’s organizations, sorority/fraternity events, colleges, universities and fundraisers. In 2009 along side Sidora Drew, Storie performed with other widely noted Chicago artists as a feature at the Bronzeville Cultural Film Festival at the Harold Washington honoring actor Bill Duke. In 2011 Storie served as a member of P.O.E.T. (People Of Extraordinary Talent) A community based organization targeting the needs of the Chicagos inner city, and surrounding areas through the gift of Poetry. Storie aided on the Artist & Development committee to help aspiring Poets and Spoken Word Artist. She would also perform at different venues hosted by the organization in an attempt to raise charitable funds and aid several programs. Storie now works collaboratively with several underground Artists, writing and arranging songs for mix-tapes and demos, recording with producers including Al Fraser (United Kingdom) for Smooth Beats Only, and provided accompanying vocals for tracks produced by Boonie Mayfield, and Chicago based producer Sureknock Jones. Storie has recorded and released several original projects receiving 5000+ downloads, and a number of YouTube video hits. Storie is now working independently under her own established indie label First Chapter Music on her first full production self-titled C.D in conjunction with an audio-book which are both scheduled for release in 2012. Good things are expected from her and her accomplishments are sure to grow. With a unique sound, and eclectic her work has been described as being in a category of it’s own. With candid performances and big personality, Storie continues to awe inspire and wow audiences everywhere she performs. Her fan base has extends for the surrounding U.S. states to Canada and the United Kingdom. Storie’s sound is unique, eclectic, melodic. She continues to spark the minds, and is sure to have the Music/Spoken Word industry buzzing. Ms. Devereaux is unquestionably an Artist with unlimited capabilities and she is definitely an Artist You Should Know. Creating musical stories for intimate conversations w/ the world.
