Phil is one of the most popular ambassadors for acoustic roots music. A dazzling instrumentalist, he is perhaps best known as a top flight fiddler and plays in the all-star line-up, Feast of Fiddles. But his skills don't stop there, he also plays slide, Spanish and tenor guitar, mandocello, viola, mandolin and South American cuatro, not to mention contributing rich vocals.
Born in Exminster, Devon, he started to play fiddle, guitar and mandolin while still at school in Teignmouth and habitually credits Davey Graham's Folk, Blues & Beyond as his inspiration for acoustic music.

He played his first gig at 14 and started working as a duo with Paul Downes in 1974 (their re-union Live at Nettlebed CD was released four years ago on the Talking Elephant label). He was then in the Arizona Smoke Revue and a key member of Johnny Coppin's band. His impressive track record also includes touring with Mike Oldfield and being a member of the feted Albion Band from 1984-1991. Show of Hands became a full-time partnership in the early 90s, a band that has gone on to sell out the Royal Albert Hall three times and who were voted Best Live Act, by the public, at the 2004 Folk Awards.

Phil, who also has his own Phil Beer Band, famously guested on the Rolling Stones Steel Wheels album and Steve Harley's Poetic Justice.

As a composer, Phil has written many numbers including the stunning instrumental The Falmouth Packet for SoH's album Witness.

As a solo artist he released Rhythm Methodist in 2004, a double album of songs and instrumentals (re-released on the Talking Elephant label this year) He ran the Show of Hands Riverside studio until 2011 when he moved to a residential setting in order to concentrate on editing a series of solo and band albums for release later in 2014. The first of which being a double live album.

Phil is also in demand as a producer, co-producing (with Steve Knightley) Jez Lowe's Jack Commons Anthem among others. Six years ago Phil created a label, Chudleigh Roots, producing Jackie Oates' highly acclaimed second album, The Violet Hour and an album by Singer Songwriter Tom Palmer. He is now once again building a new studio in a very wild and beautiful devon setting in anticipation of a large amount of commissioned recording work next year including film and TV.

Phil's main band - Show Of Hands - are arguably the strongest force in UK folk/roots music and continue to go from strength to strength. With a devoted fan-base (grown from grass-roots touring) that can fill the Royal Albert Hall several times and fill theatres up and down the land, Show Of Hands are the very definition of a 'band of the people'. Their current album 'The Long Way Home' is a superb return to their West Country roots.

PLUMHALL are Michelle Plum and Nick B Hall, a feisty Yorkshire based duo whose award winning self-penned songs are already winning them plaudits from the likes of R2 Magazine (4 stars), Miles Hunt (The Wonder Stuff), Steve Knightley (Show of Hands) and many more. The pair deliver guitar and harmony driven textures of folk, Americana and pop, and have have been wowing audiences on the live acoustic circuit in the UK. Winners of the Yorkshire Gig Guide Outstanding Songwriters award 2014, PLUMHALL were recently joined on stage by Bob Dylan's legendary guitarist Larry Campbell for a performance of Senor (Tales of Yankee Power) at the BBC Radio 2 award winning folk club The Black Swan in York. PLUMHALL's debut album THUNDERCLOUD was released on 1st September 2014 through Splid Records and Proper Distribution, and is already BBC radio playlisted. The album has just been hailed one of The Guardian and Observer's Hidden Gems of 2014. Plans to tour Canada, the US and South Africa are in the pipeline.

Michelle Plum is a former member of Chumbawamba, Waking the Witch and The Accidental Tourists, and in her own right has supported Aimee Mann, Capercaillie, Ralph McTell, Nerina Pallot, Texas and Shane MacGowan to name but a few. She also provided guest vocals for Katriona Gilmore and Jamie Roberts' UK spring 2013 tour. More recently, Michelle has toured the arenas of Germany and Bulgaria in the Chris Norman band.

Nick B Hall has been a member of the Hall Brothers band nearly all his life, and has supported Fairport Convention, Hugh Cornwell, Show of Hands, Kate Rusby, Glenn Tilbrook plus many more. He also provided session guitar for Magna Carta on their 2010 South African tour.

Together as Plumhall Michelle & Nick have supported Miles Hunt and Erica Nockalls of The Wonderstuff, Larkin Poe, Dan Donnelly & Jon Sevink, The South, Andy White, Henry Priestman and Peter Tork of The Monkees among many others. Peter Tork even invited them onstage to perform Daydream Believer with him. A very special moment!

Nick & Michelle are proud to have been asked to endorse Tanglewood Guitars.

Their next album is nearly finished and promises to be an exciting, powerful record!

It is a dream come true for Plumhall to share the same bill as Phil Beer, one of their musical heroes and inspirations.
