Mechanical Monkey Biography

We are Mechanical Monkey. A three-piece math-rock / post-hardcore band hailing from Brighton via London. Formed in 2014, we’ve been putting our spin on the manic stop-start dynamics of bands like Hero Of 100 Fights, And So I Watch You From Afar and Medications, with a focus on frenzied and memorable live shows. Our 4-song EP was released in late 2014 and gained radio play from BBC Radio 1 and XFM. We’ve spent the past 2 years building a local fanbase in Brighton and Tunbridge Wells, sharing stages with the likes of Alpha Male Tea Party, The Octopus Project, Shield Your Eyes and Hey Colossus. ‘Ambition Impossible’ is our debut album, largely recorded live and mixed by Mark Roberts (Black Peaks, Hot Moth). Across 12 songs and a couple of interludes, we expand on the sound of our EP, starting at a blistering pace with single ‘Personality Vacuum’ and working in our collective influences, with off-beat time signature changes and big riffs aplenty. Occasional light-hearted moments, such as ‘Nilbog’, influenced by the motion picture disaster ‘Troll 2’, balance out some of the more straight forward aggressive songs, like ‘Major Force’. A statement of intent, our debut goes some way to capturing the intensity of our live show with little in the way of frills, just frantic, fast paced instrumentation and a good slice of melody. "...relatively grounded, yet still exceptional. This is aggressive, and heavy hitting, yet most importantly interesting and impressive." - Echoes & Dust "This is great" - John Kennedy, XFM Xposure "Ace...turning the (math-rock) genre on it's head" - Aaron Phillips, Amazing Radio Rock Show "CAPICHE!" - Huw Stephens, BBC Radio 1 The home for the UK band, Mechanical Monkey.
