Lyrically rich and hard hitting with their instrumentation, Coldwater Road gives folk music a reason to dance. Waltzing between love songs and foot-stomping murder ballads, Coldwater Road has a story for everyone; their songs born around the campfire of British Columbia’s Nicola Valley and seasoned on the seawalls of Vancouver. Their style reaches across Folk, Americana, Rock, and Country, and live performances are described as The Avett Brothers meets Paul Simon and Dawes. Started by singer/guitarist Patrick Spencer, the band has evolved into a five-piece, adding rich harmonies and a wealth of musical textures that are in one way gritty and acoustic, and on the the other dynamic, layered, and full of melody. From a cabin in the snow, Winter 2013 brought the release of their debut album Street Side, an honest and raw album tracked live off the floor that showcases the acoustic core from which the band was born. Coldwater Road were participants in the 2013 Peak Performance Project, have performed across the Canadian Railway as part of the VIA Rail Artist on Board program, have completed numerous tours throughout Western Canada, and have showcased in Los Angeles and New York City. The band released their second album, The Woods, in 2014 and are gearing up for a release of their latest EP in Spring 2016. Coldwater Road features Patrick Spencer (lead vocals, rhythm guitar, harmonica), Stephanie Hodgins (bass, vocals), Charles Wesley (banjo, electric guitar, vocals), Max Kashetsky (vocals, keys) and Connor Brooks (percussion). Rich in harmonies and not afraid to drive hard, CwRoad is folk music with a reason to dance. Drifting between delicate waltz’s and footstomping murder ballads, live performances are like the Avett Bro’s meets Paul Simon. With 2-5 players, CwRoad can be found at community events, busking Granville Island, and all along the Lower Mainland live music trail. Founded in 2012 by Patrick Spencer, CwRoad is a 2013 Peak Performance Project band. They have made three trips to BC/Alberta, toured to Toronto and back with the VIA-Rail Artist on Board program, played in NYC and LA, won Ceili’s Acoustic Battle of the Bands and placed in the Voice of the Cellar. Recordings include: 2012 EP Coldwater Road, 2013 acoustic album Street Side, 2014 studio album The Woods and currently the band in recording a 4-song EP due for release this summer.
