About this concert
You may think you’ve heard WENDY LANDS. Maybe it was her vocal interpretations of Wladyslaw Szpilman’s classics on the haunting CD companion to the Oscar winning film ‘The Pianist’. It could have been on her Juno Award-nominated CD ‘Angels & Ordinary Men’. Or maybe you were in the audience for ‘Les Miserables’ when she starred as ‘Eponine’. But those were all just stops on the journey that has culminated in the sound that defines her vocals today — the vulnerable ache, the jazzy undertow, the lyrical depth, and the stylings that raise goose bumps. When you experience all of that, you will have truly heard Wendy Lands. After a few-year hiatus from the Toronto music scene, Lands returned in 2006, and re-established herself as an important vocalist/performer and songwriter with the critically-lauded release of “Mumble” in 2011 (Fontana North). The Montreal Gazette’s ‘Critic’s Pick’ compared Lands to Norah Jones “…and other varieties of smart, sophisticated, jazz urban pop…”. Le Journal de Montreal gave the CD 4 out of 4 stars, calling the music “…naughty jazz….goes down like a martini…”. Her eagerly-awaited fifth CD (“Altitude”) is currently in production with a planned Fall 2015 release date. This evening’s all-star WENDY LANDS QUARTET also features jazz masters LOU POMANTI on piano, MARC ROGERS on bass, and JIM GILLARD on drums, entertaining in the up-close-and-personal ambience of The Home Smith Bar.* Minimum Food & Beverage * $ 20.00 per person * Taxes & Gratuities Additional Limited Seating AvailableNo Reservations
