The Offshore Biography

When & How Was The Offshore Formed? The Offshore was formed in October of 2014 when lead singer Dakota Lawrence & bass player JP Robitille decided they were ready to begin a new folk project. However, after meeting and hiring now lead guitar player TJ Loehnert and drummer Steve Prendes via various friends & coworkers, the ambitious new "folk" project received a massive injection of electrifying blues and energetic beats. The Offshore hit the ground running. Why "The Offshore" for a name? The term "offshore" has many current and historical associations. In Surfing, an "offshore" wind often calms choppy waters and provides clean, glassy waves for those who ride. Perhaps more relevantly, however, The Offshore, as a band, is very vocal about mental health issues, such as depression, anxiety, & trauma in their song writing. Long ago, long before the four corners of the world had been explored mapped, & photographed, people fantasized & feared what they may find in the strange places just "offshore". Sea monsters, magical lands, and even the end of the world were believed, for a time, to be found just out of sight of the coast. Much the same way, mental health issues are often feared, distorted, and swept under the rug out of fear of the unknown, much like sea monsters of old. Through they're music & their actions, The Offshore hopes to drag mental health into the light, de-stigmatize, and fill in the blank edges of the map, where once were only monsters.
