Most musical careers reach their peak touring across the globe, recording with Grammy Award winning artists and making television appearances, but Fernando Tarango’s career started out that way. Discovered by the American Boychoir at the age of 10 for his promising vocal ability, he was sent from his adobe home in San Elizario, TX to train and tour with the professional boychoir in Princeton, NJ until the age of 14. “The boarding school shaped not only my musical abilities, but my appreciation and expectation for hard work and musical excellence in all varieties of performance,” he states in regards to his four years of living and working away from home. With such intense musical training at an early age accompanied by a degree in Vocal Performance from the University of Michigan it is no wonder why Fernando is able to straddle the various identities and accomplishments as a vocalist, composer, actor, songwriter and front man. As a tenor he has sung for a myriad of professional music ensembles including the Grammy Award Winning Pacific Boychoir Academy, Grammy Award Winning San Francisco Symphony Chorus, Clerestory, American Bach Soloists, Volti and more. He was also hand picked by composer, Kirke Mecham to premier the role of Mr. Bingley in his newest opera, Pride and Prejudice, in Davies Symphony Hall and was a vocalist on the Grammy Award Winning Recording, Songs of Innocence and Experience. “One of my proudest moments as a soloist has been touring with my hometown Philharmonic, the Fort Wayne Phil.” says Fernando. “It was our last Holiday Pops Performance of 2012 and we were in the Honeywell Center, a beautiful hall in Wabash, IN. I performed Oh, Holy Night quite well and was pleased but after the final bar, I looked out to see that the full house was on their feet cheering. I guess they liked it too. It was an extremely proud moment for me.” And proud he should be. Fernando’s voice has been treasured by audiences around the world. His touring career has spanned through over 20 different countries and four continents fluidly switching genres and styles with his awe inspiring vocal ability and musicianship. “The light sweetness of handsome tenor Fernando Tarango…left me hoping for more.” says the San Francisco Classical Voice. As a composer, producer and songwriter Fernando has licensed music to MTV, VH1, E! and the Oxygen Network as well as television commercials for Dave and Busters, Brown Thurman and Proctor and Gamble. He has even been able to cut his teeth as a professional actor performing on national commercial campaigns for Southern Comfort, Blue Anthem, Jamba Juice and Old Spice. “I enjoy acting and hope to do more,” Fernando says. “It makes me a better performer overall and has forced me to become comfortable in my own skin, even if I’m not singing, which is especially important when I’m performing as a front man.” As a front man, he has performed in Brazil, Italy and Argentina, performed at Bonnaroo Music Festival, and even been featured on an Old Spice Commercial with his latest band, Fernando Tarango and the Wickersham Brothers. His high energy 5 piece Americana JazzRock band captured the attention of the brand with their danceable melodies, engaging personalities and broad musical appeal.
