La Matatena’s proposal base don SKA is to have fun while making music and at the same time entertain people and get them involved
La Matatena’s sound does not have only a single tendency, we took ska as a founding sound but not limited to other genres.
The musical sense of La Matatena searches to create an interactive message-response. Music is not and it shouldn’t be a monologue, on the contrary, it should be the answer to an unlimited number of codes shared in culturally way.
What La Matatena expresses with sound, it’s a projection of the essence of our bodies seeking out to join emotions and sentiments under the exclamation of our generation.
Today, LA MATATENA comes back, with a new line up, integrating well renowned musicians with different music influences, creating a total new concept directed to all ages, targets and countries, fusing other music genres to the one that gave birth and wich La Matatena pioneered in Mexico (1992-2018), SKA.
This time again, founder and drummer Manolo Romero (Drums) embarks himself on this new adventure with a great team of musicians such as , Oscar Méndez (Keyboard), Emmanuel Villagran (Sax), Andrei Delgadillo (Vocals y percussions), Irwing Bass (Bass), Juan Carlos Aguilar (Guitar), Alintzin (Fire Dancer) and second vocals of this eternal project that will never stop
La Matatena has shared stage with famous bands like DesordenPúblico (Who also collaborated on the first album), Skatalites, TheSpecials, SaveFerris, VoodoGlowskulls, PiesNegros,Ska-P, DefconDos, TodostusMuertos, Negu Gorriak, Horace Martin, Horace Andy, MúngosHiFi and many many more..
La Matatena continues and is right now in studio producing it’s new album “LA PURA VIDA”, where once again brings back the sool and smooth sound of true ska fused with a worldbeat sound and Balkan, something like World-Balkan-Ska!

La Matatena’s founder and drummer, starts his career at 15 years old playing on his first band “Los sobrinos de luto” same band that a few years later became La Matatena, as all empiric musicians he starts playing cover songs, it didn’t took long for him to realize this wasn’t his thing, there he decided to start composing and writing original songs.
