Quell Biography

There are at least two acts who share the name Quell.

#1: Quell formed in 2001 however the band was around before that. Before changing their name to QUELL thay were A Kiss Before Dying and were on the list to play Ozzfest, supposedly they could not come up with the required fees and their slot went to crazy town. Prior to that they were called andreas truth and rumor is they are connected to bands like prayer for cleansing, between the buried and Glass Casket, Gadrel and probably others through line up changes and simply helping out with shows and such. (if anyone has actual info about these line up changes please add it). It has been said they frequently changed their name and if a member left or a new member came in they would change it.
Quell won showcase performance slots at MacRock (Mid-Atlantic College Radio Conference- James Madison University) and shared spotlight stage with Converge.
Three of the band members Sam, Sammy and Carlos played music together since middle approximately school and played in several locally popular Punk and Ska bands, one member either Sam or Sammy (sorry I can't recall which) even played Saxaphone in a Blues band and played in a Jazz Band for several years and even played temporarily with Pain. Carlos is thought to be one of the best drummers in the world (literally) by some of their fans, whether that's true or not he is definately one of the better drummers out there, I don't think many would say he is not very good at the least. Josh joined quell as his first band (lambgoat) and has since played and sang in several fairly succecful bands, Ted played in several bands in the DC area prior to joining the band.
Some of the songs on the first EP "Sleep Soundly" had been being played live by the band for several years and those in "the scene" know that they are not as many critics have claimed imitators but actually influenced many bands who had much greater success than they did. (There was a video of them as Kiss before dying on the web but it also seems to be gone)
Quell did several tours across the USA and literally played their way through some of their tours at one time being left without funds to get to the next gig by crook club owners who refused to pay etc. They were scheduled to travel through New Orleans during katrina but fate favored them and that tour was cancelled. Their tour after the release of One Mans struggle with the english language was cancelled as well and Quell was reported to rarely play shows. On one occasion Quell drove straight from Greensboro N.C. to Hamilton, Ontario on short notice in the dead of winter to perform at the GoodFellow Records Fest. Upon arrival they went to the stage set up played then immediately packed back up and drove back to North Carolina taking turns sleeping and driving all the way.
Their only presence is now on myspace and the page states they are no longer a band. Several mambers play in other groups and are spread across the United States.
There is some footage of the band available on Series DVD by Forsaken Records "First In Flight" A North Carolina Retrospective DVD" and "Metal and Hardcore Magazine Vol. 2", the video for "pants ain't tight, belt ain't white" is also on youtube.
During their short life they shared the stages and toured many artists among which were Poison The Well / Unearth / Sworn Enemy tour, and the Dillinger Escape Plan / All Else Failed / Darkest Hour tour (both in December of 2001), as well as Dillinger Escape Plan's return tour in September, and Today Is The Day's tour in October 2002, Caliban, the Red Chord, Majority Rule, Between The Buried and Me, Undying, Bloodjinn, Breaking Pangea, Joshua Fit For Battle, A Life Once Lost, Dead to Fall, End This Day, This Day Forward, In Pieces, Cannae, Purity's Failure, Daughters and Examination .., Dying Fetus, Ion Dissonance, Between the Buried and me (rumored that quell helped them book their first public gig), Bodies in the Gear of the Apparatus bitgota,Into the Moat, and many others.

#2: Cleveland powerelectronics act active from 1993 through 2002 consisting of full-time member Jason Quell (keyboards, vocals) and Bob Quell (guitar), who went from full-time to part-time after moving to Detroit in 1998.
