Krista Polvere Biography

The decision to self-title her forthcoming new album was an easy one for Krista Polvere. The path the Melbourne (Australia) based singer-songwriter took to this album was a long and winding one, encompassing two continents, several years and a mountain of raw emotion, heartache and life experience. The result is simply – Krista Polvere. The story began when the artist committed to a sound that embraced her aesthetic – honest, rootsy, sometimes brazen and sassy and equal parts powerful and vulnerable – it’s a genre frequently labeled as “Americana” but in reality it’s just genuine and real music made by an artist intent on sticking to her guns and not being wooed by those offering short cuts to a glittering prize of pop stardom. Her story isn’t taken from the set of the television series Nashville – despite her camera friendly looks and engaging personality making her superficially appear to be a candidate for star-making formulas, she’s taken the bumpy road of numerous bar gigs, solitary road trips and hours of songwriting leading to the clutch of songs that make Krista Polvere her most accomplished album to date. She’s crossed some interesting paths along the way. She’s opened shows in Australia and America for iconic performers such as Ryan Adams (who she met during an extended period living in New York and who sang and played guitar on some of Krista’s earlier recordings), Ron Sexsmith, Steve Earle and UK artist Aqualung. She’s recorded independently with producers including Malcolm Burn (Emmylou Harris, Bob Dylan, U2) and Marc Ford (of the Black Crowes). Krista Polvere was recorded while she was living in Virginia with artist/producer Bryan Elijah Smith. Recorded in a minimalist basement studio the album is the fiery and revealing portrait of an intense personal and creative partnership ignited by musical and personal intimacy and risk-taking. The album finds Polvere venturing outside of her comfort zone and wearing her musical and emotional heart on her sleeve, resulting in an album of rare quality and lasting appeal. The album is already drawing comparisons to artists as diverse as Lucinda Williams, Bobby Gentry, Natalie Merchant and Courtney Barnett. From here the world again beckons – Krista Polvere will be released internationally in 2016 and Polvere will be taking the show on the road across Australia and internationally, all the while searching for more people, places and experiences to fuel her creative fire. Australian born alternative singer/songwriter with a passion for vintage cars and horses. Mysterious, wild, irrevocable. Schooled by the late Joan Kirner
