Rick Cee DJ / Producer Biography

Based out of London, Rick Cee is a DJ, producer, radio presenter and owns Cut The Mustard Recordings with a particular focus on Deep House & Techno. Rick’s recent EP Goodlanman hit beatport number 9 in the Tech House chart and 22 in all releases. Rick is currently in the top 10 on Reverbnation. nfluenced by UK artists the likes of Jeremy Healy and Graeme Park and more recently Darius Syrossian and German Duo Pan-Pot, Rick has out to create a distinctive blend of DJ sets and productions with a classic feel and with some retro vibes. Rick has been performing extensively circa 2000, what he first started out behind the decks. His sound is distinct, bass driven, eclectic and visionary, featuring elements as diverse as techno, house, funk, and soul. Recently, Rick released a brand new single on CTM Recordings: the track is “So True”, and it is a driven, minimal and moody deep house tune. It’s all about retro synths and analog beats. His production style is relatively sparse, a refreshing choice, considering how overcrowded modern house productions can be. This song echoes back to the 90s, with a simple synth line, a steady beat and catchy vocal samples that get stuck in your head. He bought decks back in 1994 for just £35 – one Sony and one Technics, using a wheel to change the pitch, complete with a mixer originally from Tandy (inclusive of echo button!). Months later he was playing the main room at Fluid in Manchester and it wasn’t before long that he found himself DJing at numerous ‘legal’ parties. Over the next 14 years, Rick Cee’s life quickly changed to a nocturnal existence spanning the Globe and playing with some of the biggest names in House and Techno. He was soon playing clubs such as Garlands in Liverpool, Sankey’s in Manchester, Pacha in London and alongside names like Jonathan Ulysses, The AudioWhores, Mistress Da Funk, Jo Mills, Yousef, Sneaky Soundsystem, Ralph Lawson, Copyright, Noir and Yousef. Then, from the summer of 2002, his reputation crossed the continent when he was asked to play at Café Mambo, Kanya, The Orange Corner, Plastik and Eden in Ibiza, Fiesta En La Playa in Tulum, Mexico and most recently, Hikka Fest in Sri Lanka, where his energetic sound was just right for the festival crowd! With sets combining soulful, funky, deep, jacking and tech house and plenty of technical individuality, he always manages to get (and keep) the crowd going! He uses Traktor Scratch with Ableton live using an X1 controller with his Pioneer EFX, although he’s no stranger to using CDJ’s and vinyl when playing classics. Before the digital age kicked off, 3 deck vinyl mixing was his thing! Having now relocated to London, Rick has hooked up with good friend and fellow DJ / Producer Armack. Both have been involved at the top end of the house music scene for over a decade; DJing and promoting at some of the biggest clubs in the UK, Ibiza and throughout the world. Together they realised their vision in 2012 with the creation of #CutTheMustard (CTM) Recordings – “London’s independently Global” house music label. Rick is currently sponsored by yourownclothing (www.yourownclothing.com), as well as Aircoustic, an established European headphone brand, who he will be working closely with to develop a new range of DJ headphones.
