Punch Drunk Monkey Club Biography
Originally formed in 2011 by Bradley Taylor (drums/vocals) & Joe Oakes (bass/vocals) as a bedroom music project, they were soon joined by lead guitarist Thomas Harding. The band wrote some original songs and played a few covers adopting a kind of indie/punk/metal kind of vibe. Next came Alex Braybrook (keys) and Matt Traynar (drums/vocals). With Bradley moving to rhythm guitar. This added a new dynamic to the band, with Matt's song writing skills and musical direction, the band stepped up a gear, playing a few practice gigs at Banbury Academy. In early 2013, the band won an online competition, which saw them enter Coldroom Studios in Cumnor, Oxfordshire to record their first demo. The result being "Run Away" & "In The Camper". This lead to some live gigs, including a main stage slot at BodFest'13 alongside Von Braun, The Cellar Family, X-1, Small Time Hero, Tiger Mendoza and many more... They played the Jericho Tavern (supporting Don't Go Plastic) with several other gigs along the way. Matt stepped down as drummer at the end of 2013 to concentrate on his studies and early 2014 saw his replacement Shawn Rostron arrive. Punch Drunk Monkey Club have already played gigs at The Mill Arts Centre in Banbury, The Bell (Hobgoblin) in Bicester & Castle House (in Banbury); also The Bullingdon, The Jericho Tavern and The Wheatsheaf in Oxford; and played & Bloxfest, Pedstock and Thamesfest. 2015 was a little quieter as Thomas, Alex and Joe started full-time education at Universities around the country. PDMC play live as much as possible during the holiday periods, and played to a packed house at Klub Kakofanney and palyed their first London gig at Underbelly Hoxton in July 2015 followed by an appearance Grimsbury Music Festival, Banbury during the summer. PDMC are available for gigs throughout the holiday periods. "PDMC are playing energetic and occasionally discordant indie rock..... their set packs a good punch, each track catchy and exuberant".
