The Newcastle based songwriter has just released what The Music is calling “one of the finest local Americana albums of recent years.”Audiences and reviewers rightly single out the influence of Neil Young, Townes Van Zandt and Bob Dylan on James’ music, but his part traditionalist, part renegade approach see’s these influences fit naturally alongside diverse and less obvious ones.Following successive National tours with Simone Felice (The Felice Brothers) and Mark Olson (The Jayhawks), James left Australia in late 2013 to write, perform and travel through the American South. While on this trip James wrote the majority of the songs for his second album Cold Moon. James went into the studio almost immediately once back in Australia and scheduled the later recording sessions around a sold out National tour with Nashville-based artists Robert Ellis and Jonny Fritz.James Thomson is currently performing with his band The Strange Pilgrims and will be touring in the spring of 2015 to support his wonderfully received new album Cold Moon.
