About this concert
August 16 at the Coffee Gallery Backstage, Altadena: The Kennedys with special guest B. D. Love: A Tale of Two CitiesA special Kennedys show highlighting new songs that paint lyrical pictures of two great cities; New York and Los Angeles. Pete's upcoming CD "Heart of Gotham" is an original song cycle, with each song a vignette based on experiences he's had in and around the East Village. "Villanelle", Maura's recent collaboration with Los Angeles poet B. D. Love, is a wide-ranging lyrical tapestry that draws the listener, at certain moments, into a sharpened focus on aspects of life in the natural ecosystem of Southern California. The balancing act of these songs from the two great creative cities in America, will make for a fascinating evening of writers presenting work that was sparked by a combination of imagination and environment...add in Maura's great singing, Pete's stellar guitar work, and a rare appearance by B. D. Love reading some of the poems that inspired "Villanelle", and you have a great show.Aug 16, 7pmCoffee Gallery Backstage2029 Lake StreetAltadena, CATickets: $20For reservations: (626) 798-6236www.coffeegallery.com/http://www.coffeegallery.com/

Maura Kennedy Biography

Maura Kennedy, member of The Kennedys, released on her debut solo album "Parade of Echoes" in January 2010. She has performed a handful of concerts, both solo and with her five-piece band, in and around New York City. As a member of The Kennedys, she has released 11 CDs, and has a 12th one on the way, due to be released sometime in the spring of 2012. She is currently touring with Nanci Griffith as her guitarist/backup singer, and as the opening act (The Kennedys). She has harmonized on stage with the likes of Nanci Griffith, Emmylou Harris, Joan Osborne, Patti Smith, Cyndi Lauper, Jackson Browne, Marshall Crenshaw, Steve Forbert, Odetta, Tom Paxton, The Roches, and many more. Maura Kennedy was born Maura Boudreau in Syracuse NY, home of a fantastic live, original music scene when she was a teenager. She played in many different bands, on different instruments while she was in her formative years: bass guitar in punk and heavy metal bands, keyboards and acoustic guitar in a British Folk Rock band, guitar and mandolin in a roots-rock band. In 1993, she joined now-husband Pete Kennedy as part of Nanci Griffith's backup band on a 2 month world tour. When that tour was over, The Kennedys was born, and the duo have been traveling, writing and recording ever since. Their eleventh album, "Retrospective" is available only at their concerts, and their twelfth album, "Closer Than You Know," is due to be released in the spring of 2012. The Kennedys recently re-connected with long-time friend and mentor, Nanci Griffith, and have been touring, writing, and recording with her throughout 2011. In addition, Maura has been doing some acting in film/TV/and web series in NYC since 2008. This page is dedicated to Maura's solo work. The official Maura Kennedy page.
