Papafish The Band! Biography
Female- fronted, Southern California native band PapaFish combines influences in reggae, electro-funk, new beat and ska to conduct a brand of music they can confidently call their own. Papafish formed early 2010 on a dorm balcony at California State University Northridge and since then the band continues to earn notability through engaging live performances, winning international contests and the unwavering support from their fans. In Summer 2013, The Huffington Post announced PapaFish as the winner of Marley's Music Uprising, an international contest held by the Marley family & SonicBids in order to discover the next big innovative reggae act inspired by the legendary Bob Marley. PapaFish earned performances at the California Roots and Sierra Nevada music festivals as well as a trip to Jamaica where they recorded with Ky-Mani Marley in the renowned Tuff Gong Studios. During their stay, PapaFish and Ky-Mani performed an acoustic version of Bob’s song “Mellow Mood” for thousands on Smile Jamaica. The following year PapaFish’s tenacious fans voted them into 1st place for the California Roots Festival fan’s choice contest. Papafish performed a second time at the festival alongside notable acts such as 311, Damian “Jr. Gong” Marley, Ziggy Marley, and SOJA. PapaFish released their debut 6 song EP titled 'The Lab' in March 2013.The EP’s creation happened at 17th Street Recording Studio under the guidance of renowned music producer Lewis Richards (credits: Sting, Mary J. Blige, The Dirty Heads, Sublime w/ Rome, Slightly Stoopid and more). PapaFish is currently working on their second EP, set to release in 2015 and fans can expect new incorporated avenues of sound from the band. twitter.com/papafishband
