The Good Thing Biography

Kim Jade Fry, female bassist, lead vocalist and composer for The Good Thing, a funk/rock band out of DC, is a versatile, energetic and soulful woman with a funky, big band that is electrifying. Kim Jade lays down hard-core bass grooves and sings with big ole soul with sounds in the vein of “James Brown”, “Sly”, “Tower of Power” and of course, “Pfunk”. Her band will keep you grooving all night with their tremendous, old school sound, as they are not just playing “funky” music, they are playing FUNK! The Good Thing was formed by Kim Jade, bass and vocals, and is rounded out by Gordon Sterling on guitar and vocals (formerly Charles Wright), and the groove monster Randy Stindt on the drums. From the very beginning, Kim Jade had a vision of putting together a true funk/soul outfit and that vision has now become a reality, complete with a full HORN SECTION. The Good Thing has always been and will be a diverse band made up of real DC funk legends, with a raw, down and dirty funk style. Back in 2008, as a newcomer to D.C., Kim Jade was welcomed into the arms of the Adams Morgan music scene when she was randomly invited to perform with veteran Band, “Lucky Dog” at Madams Organ. Since then, that band has disbanded and she has been playing there ever since, now with her band, The Good Thing, bringing her style of funk, rock and soul to DC. SHOWS & EXPERIENCE: The Good Thing have been getting bigger and better while playing some legendary stages in DC, including Kennedy Center, The Hamilton, Tropicalia, The Howard Theatre, and beyond. They have shared the bill with artists such as Bonerama, The Main Squeeze, Yo Mama's Big Fat Booty Band, The Stooges Brass band from New Orleans, etc. They have also had their fair share of local festivals plays along with a coveted, monthly house gig at the legendary “Madam’s Organ” in Adams Morgan, DC. Female fronted DC Funk band featuring Kim Jade Fry on bass n vocals! A guaranteed nasty, funky groove with elements of soul, rock, blues. Let's get down!
