Drake Murphy Biography

Drake Murphy is from Addor, North Carolina. He grew up in music coming from a musical family. Drake started piano lessons at the age of 2 and started violin in 4th grade. His father, Paul Murphy had a studio in which he taught Drake how to use all of the equipment in order to not break it. While everyone was sleeping, Drake would go into their studio and record, but he wouldn't let anyone hear his creations. One day his father found one of his tapes, saw his potential and encouraged him to continue. He was about 5 years old. At the age of 15, Drake began to professionally record music. He caught the ear of a former J. Records recording artist. At the time, he was a solo producer and when he turned 17 he joined forces with his brother, Kent. They went by the name of Beatmizers Productions which later became Dark Matter Productions and which is currently Addor Music Group. When the aforementioned J. Records artist found out Drake was 15, he never called Drake back. Drake wasn't discouraged, he kept making music and submitting it to other record companies. The first record company on a major scale to respond was Atlantic Records. Drake got into speaking with them, but ultimately chose to go the independent route. He wanted to have more control over his projects. Everything on Drake's debut album, Feel Better was written, recorded, mixed/mastered, and distributed by Drake. Feel Better is an independent project separate from the production of Addor Music Group. He recorded his whole album by using a smart-phone controlled app that allowed him to run his studio while recording. Drake plays over 12 instruments including: accordion, guitar (his favorite), piano, drums, bass, electric and standup acoustic, trombone, trumpet, and violin. He's been most influenced by Pharrell Williams and Chad Hugo AKA The Neptunes, Timbaland, John Mayer, Jason Mraz, Jaco Pastorius, Pat Metheny, and his father, brother, and grandfather. Q: Who would you like to work with in the future? A: It'd be great to work with my aforementioned influences. I'd also like to work with Hayley Williams of Paramore and I'd love to write a song with Danny O'Donoghue (he's an amazing writer). Q: Do you feel ready for your impending success? A: I am. Q: The fans, paparazzi, appearances, touring, schedule, positive and negative? A: Everything that I've been through has prepared me for this moment that I'm approaching. So, I feel like my head is in the right place to be able to have success and longevity in the business of music. I have a really strong support system from my family, my team, and my fans.
