Pluuto Biography

Hailing from Los Angeles, Pluuto is a cinematic sensory experience consisting of LA natives Elmo Lovano (drums) and Sergio Flores (saxophone/flute), with Australian-born musicians Nick Maybury (guitar) and Kristian Attard (bass). The group was started by Maybury who initially sought a rotating lineup to perform with around Los Angeles. However, after meeting the current members of Pluuto in 2008 at Lovano’s Camerata – a weekly art and music event that took place in Hollywood – a permanent lineup was quickly set in place. Over the next seven years the group developed their craft and honed their sound by performing with one another, as well as with numerous other acts. Their first recording was released in 2012 under the name "Pluto Quartet" and was met with great enthusiasm. Following the success of this recording, Pluuto will release their debut EP of original material on March 31, 2015, including “Alice In Wonderland,” the track that got everything started. “I had just gotten out of school, and in that point in my life this was the sound I had evolved into as a musician and composer,” said guitarist Nick Maybury. “I wanted to explore sonic ideas, and have a compositional element with improvisational moments where one could express true freedom." Outside of Pluuto, each member has racked up an impressive list of playing and recording credits. Lovano has worked and toured with acts from Skrillex to Christina Perri, as well as founding his own app for musicians, Jammcard. Flores has worked with artists from The Faceless to Zedd to Redfoo, and is well-known for his alter-ego – Sexy Sax Man – which has made him a viral video sensation; Maybury has worked with Perry Farrell (Jane's Addiction), Michelle Branch, The Veronica's, LP, The Madden Brothers, and iconic 70s teen idol rocker Cherie Currie (The Runaways); and Attard is known for his work with Heart, Jason Mraz, and Meghan Trainor. In addition, Maybury and Attard have both performed and toured with Australian legend Jimmy Barnes. By combining their experiences with such a diverse group of musicians, Pluuto has developed a unique sound that explores composition, dynamics, sound treatment, programming, improvisation, unorthodox arrangements, and sonic palettes all within their hybrid jazz/electronic/rock format. Pluuto’s first single, “Somewhere Far, Far Away,” will be released in April 2015.
