Scott Skittle Johnson Biography

Scott “Skittle” Johnson “I grew up around country music. I always listened to it. The first fiddle song I wanted to learn was John Anderson’s ‘Seminole Wind.’” Hailing from Houston, Texas, Scott Johnson had an ear for music from the age of six when he began playing piano, but his interest didn’t pique until he picked up a violin at the age of 13. At the urging of his father, Scott joined his school’s orchestra to hone his ability, but an innate talent for the instrument drove him to expand his skills. Taking fiddle lessons from two different instructors, including Robert Herridge from Gilley’s in Pasadena, proved that the natural gift that could land him solidly on stage with his much older contemporaries. At age 14, Scott landed his first professional gig with Doug Supernaw at the Clute, Texas Mosquito Festival. The one date turned into 20…in six months. It also turned into a renewed interest in playing a guitar, which was a gift from Supernaw. A chance meeting with the legendary Charlie Daniels was the other gift from Doug. That meeting led to a two-year gig with the country music icon, which also led him to his first of many appearances on the legendary stage of Billy Bob’s in Fort Worth. Unfortunately, a family crisis stunted Scott’s burgeoning plans for a professional music career. When his father passed away in 1999, the young musician’s goal was to complete his education and care for his family. That meant moving his mother to Georgia. Just over two years later, though, the pull of music became too strong to ignore and he returned to his home state where he earned a scholarship in jazz performance at Stephen F. Austin College. During college, Scott met regional singer-songwriter Kelly McGuire. The musician, whose songs combined island reggae with contemporary country, tapped the young talent to become part of his band as they launched a worldwide tour. Following the international run, Scott joined local Texas band, Husker Row, but was also earning his national stripes with one-off and sub-gigs with some of the hottest mainstream acts in country music. Since coming to Nashville, Scott has rekindled relationships with his friends at mainstream country radio and has established himself as “one to watch” with the city’s songwriting and recording community, which points him towards recording his own debut project in 2015. # # # For more information: Tammy Ragusa: 615-975-6279 Tammy@TNTArtistDevelopment.com SCOTT “SKITTLE” JOHNSON FROM: Houston, Texas INSTRUMENTS: Fiddle, viola, cello, guitar, bass guitar, banjo, mandolin, piano YEARS PEFORMING: 17+ PREVIOUS WORK INCLUDES: Charlie Daniels Band, Asleep At The Wheel, Kelly McGuire, Husker Row, J.B. and the Moonshine Band, Jason Cassidy PICK-UP WORK INCLUDES: Tracy Byrd, BlackHawk, Mark Chesnutt, Bryan White, Travis Tritt, Shenandoah, Clint Black, Jesse Raub, Jr. ADDITIONAL EXPERIENCE: Extensive studio work on fiddle, banjo, guitar and background vocals RECORDINGS INCLUDE: “Honky Tonk Heaven” (Jason Cassidy) Fiddle, background vocals “My Redemption” (Jason Cassidy) Fiddle, background vocals “What Do You Have For a Heartache” (Jason Cassidy) Fiddle, background vocals “Picture Perfect” (Jesse Raub, Jr.) Fiddle, mandolin “Hey, Hey Mama” (Jesse Raub, Jr.) Fiddle “Bad Intentions” (Jesse Raub, Jr.) Fiddle “Come On Over” (Chris Story) Fiddle “Feel Free To Fall” (Chris Story) Fiddle “Socks On a Rooster” (Chris Story) ENDORSEMENTS/SPONSORSHIPS: Fishburn Violins, Tomball, Texas VooDoo Rodeo Clothing Red Dirt Hurricane Energy Drink GEAR: Custom-made Robert Keeley pedal board with mike stand and road case On the board: - Pitch black Korg tuner - Custom-made Keeley TS8 tube screamer - Holy Grail nano (reverb) - LR Baggs Para-Acoustic DI - Sennheiser Wireless E500 G3 series (instrument wireless) In-ear monitor system Sennheiser EW 300 IEM G3 Behringer Ultragraph Pro FBQ1502 Both mounted with a power conditioner in a road case Music
