I've Taken a Lover Biography

I’ve Taken a Lover is a product of the modern era, where influences and backgrounds vary drastically from person to person, and help to create the unique sound that has defined the group. When guitarist and vocalist Rob Wikstrom, formerly of The Nix Dicksons of Calgary, moved to Kamloops in late 2011, he posted an ad online in search of like minded musicians to start an indie rock band. That is how he met drummer Brian Carew and guitarist Matt Genshorek. In early 2012, the trio met and immediately started making music. In the following year, the trio played various local shows, and recorded a 4 song demo. In late 2012, after a show in downtown Kamloops, the group was approached by Sean Schneider, offering his services on bass. With Wikstrom at the helm, the band started 2013 off working on their first EP, “Iceland” a 5 song showcase of the range of sounds they are capable of producing. The EP was recorded in the spring, and was followed by a summer of playing shows with bands ranging from Beekeeper to Bend Sinister, promoting the EP release, and working on material for the 2nd EP at Echoplant Sound in Vancouver. "I Wish Teenagers Weren't So Tough", the band's 2nd EP, will be released on February 14, 2015. Following the release, the band will spend a week on the road to promote the new release. We spend our days chasing dreams, and our nights wide awake. As of March 13th, 2015, we will be taking a break from performing until further notice.
