Shout Hey! Band Biography

Shout Hey is the product of many trial-and-error runs of bands formed in high school. The result is an eclectic mix of alternative, pseudo-pop and indie music with many influences ranging from outside the typical genre scope of contemporary music. With each member bringing their own style to the proverbial songwriting table, their music is in constant flux, featuring flavours from diverse origins to create a blend that transcends traditional boundaries. Their performance repertoire adapts to everything from upbeat, dancy club shows to laid-back, mellow vibes at your favourite Sunday afternoon local. The release of their debut EP, Can You Hear Me? saw the band really take flight in the local music scene. Their subsequent nationwide tour saw them playing at venues across the country, amongst others, The Assembly (CPT), LIVE The Venue (DBN), Arcade Empire (PTA) and Wolves Café (JHB). In addition, many singles off Can You Hear Me? were playlisted on both terrestrial and online radio stations (UCT Radio, MFM, PukFM, Vow FM, Zone Radio, DSTV DMX Campus Rock playlist and Assembly Radio to name a few), and they have had their music featured on shows hosted by the likes of Gary Cool (2OceansVibe, 2013) and Jon Savage (5FM, 2013). In July 2014, Shout Hey released a new single called Word of Mouth, which received critical acclaim from such writers as Texx and The City, Gary Cool, Mixed Apples, Drop Your Drink, Not-Another-Zebra and more. Then, in August, they got dusty with best (and worst) of us, as they played their first festival – Oppikoppi Odyssey. They have shared the stage with some the country’s best, including the likes of Jeremy Loops, Shortstraw, Desmond & The Tutus, aKing, The December Streets, Wrestlerish, Beach Party, Goodnight Wembley and many more. And, in Decemeber 2014, the up-til-now trio introduced a fourth member to the band, Dane Steinhobel, who would take over the job of lead vocals. His addition triggered yet another source of influences in the band's creative process, and they are excited to see what comes of it! Shout Hey are proudly endorsed by: MUSIC CONNECTION MACBETH SOUTH AFRICA SAVIL ROW STUDIOS Press: “If this is your first introduction to pop trio, you would think that they’ve already achieved a substantial amount of success in SA”, “‘Word Of Mouth’ is coated in a sugary veneer that the tweens are going to lose their shit over.” – Tecla Ciolfi, Texx and the City “If this is even an eighth of a bite of the show festival goers can expect, they’re in for a golden set at the Ray Ban Top Bar Stage at Midnight on Thursday next week.” - Chloe Boswell, The FUSS on ‘Word of Mouth’ and Oppikoppi Odyssey "From the first song in, they had the crowd hooked, specifically the group of (what looked like) teenage girls gathering in front of the stage. And who can blame them? Shout Hey! has an irresistible stage presence. It feels like you have known them for years; just your best mates playing an exclusive gig after their world tour. They have mastered the art of balancing confidence and humility on stage, and that is what I like most about them." - Jessica Kramer, Drop Your Drink "You look at a band like Blink 182 or Muse, and they make it work. Shout Hey! is no different, the energetic live performance they give can, according to me, be compared with other well-known South African bands such as Zebra and Giraffe or The Plastics." - Ewald Cloete, Running Wolf's Rant "Shout Hey! is an extremely underrated band.[They] play a very cool and accessible indie/pop punk fusion. As a three-piece band, these guys kick a lot of butt with their catchy tunes."[…] “These boys clearly have their eyes set on attaining musical excellence!” - Music Review SA Download Shout Hey!'s latest single 'Word of Mouth' and their debut EP on iTunes: https://itunes.apple.com/za/album/word-of-mouth-single/id905618767
