About this concert

Referred to as the "classic double threat" by NPR, Camille Thurman excels on both the tenor saxophone and vocals. She has established herself as a powerhouse musician and an electrifying artist. Downbeat Magazine describes Camille as a performer who could shape jazz for decades to come. The New York City-born artist has drawn comparisons to Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan, Betty Carter, Dexter Gordon, and Joe Henderson. She made a historic and memorable impact as the first woman to perform, record and tour full-time with the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra (2018-2020). Camille has a name for herself as a bandleader, collaborating with veteran New York drummer Darrell Green and performing music from their latest project, “Confluence, Vol. 1: Alhambra.”
Darrell Green is one of today’s leading and most sought-after drummers on the jazz scene, having toured with Pharoah Sanders, Wallace Roney, Antoine Roney, Cassandra Wilson, George Cables, and Stefon Harris. These two influential musicians have assembled a dynamic band with trumpeter Wallace Roney, Jr., pianist Jordan Williams, and bassist Paul Beaudry.
From Camille’s dreamy vocals and electrifying saxophone lines to Darrell’s mesmerizing rhythmic colors and dynamic interpretations of standards and originals, this fiery musical collaborative team will make a significant impact for years to come. Renew your senses to what jazz sounds, looks, and feels like while listening to two of the most dynamic, young, creative, and talented forces on the music scene.
