Phi-Psonics is a meditative group from Los Angeles, led by bassist Seth Ford-Young. On the night their lineup will feature Seth Ford-Young (double bass / leader), Sylvain Carton (saxophone / flutes), Chip Wickham (saxophone / flutes), Bruno Heinen (keyboards) and Jon Scott (drums). Their deeply soulful music draws on jazz and classical influences together with Ford-Young’s own musical experiences, relationships, and his introduction to spirituality.
“Gorgeous Spiritual Jazz Vibration” - Zakia (BBC 6 Music)
Jack Wyllie is a saxophonist, flautist and composer whose distinctive voice on flute, soprano and tenor saxophones mark him out as a key figure in contemporary music. A keen collaborator whose projects have drawn on ambient, Fourth-world, electronica and modern classical influences. He will be performing alongside Dobrwaba Czocher (cello), Hinako Omori (keyboards) and Jesse Barrett (drums).
On Jack’s debut album under his own name, Eternal Spring, his compositions balance elevating melodies and cyclical rhythms while unashamedly reaching for something hopeful and beautiful.
“Gorgeous, simmering, and cinematic” - Elizabeth Alker (BBC Radio 3)
Gondwana Records is an independent record label, founded in Manchester in 2008 by musician and producer Matthew Halsall and his brother, graphic designer and artist, Daniel Halsall. Renowned for their sound and visual aesthetic Gondwana has helped define a strand of progressive jazz-influenced electronica, ambient, post-classical and contemporary spiritual jazz that has helped launch the careers of some of today’s most distinctive artists. Matthew Halsall, Jasmine Myra, Portico Quartet, Hania Rani, Vega Trails and Svaneborg Kardyb are just a few to find their home on the label.
