About this concert
7:00 PM GMT+1
The Slovak National Jazz Orchestra (SNJO) will present a special concert marking the 100th anniversary of the start of regular radio broadcasting in Slovakia. The V-klub will host a performance featuring pieces from the archival repertoires of orchestras that once operated in this building, alongside original compositions and new arrangements performed by the SNJO.
Regular radio broadcasting in Slovakia began on August 3, 1926, in Bratislava. Over its century-long history, radio has become a vital part of Slovak cultural life, with its studios hosting dozens of prominent musicians, orchestras, and other key figures of Slovak culture.
This evening will unite the musical legacy of past radio orchestras with contemporary Slovak jazz and the work of the Slovak National Jazz Orchestra.
The Slovak National Jazz Orchestra (SNJO) is the only professional 18-piece big band in Slovakia with its own residency and a regular concert season in Bratislava. It brings together leading Slovak jazz artists and musicians from abroad (Hungary, the Czech Republic, Poland, Germany, and the USA). Its programming focuses on original works by Slovak composers, new arrangements, and the global big band repertoire. Throughout the season, the SNJO regularly collaborates with distinguished guest artists from both Slovakia and abroad.
