As Sydney emerged from lockdown, the pair met at their local guitar shop and rehearsal studio, Talon Music. Mel came from neo-soul and alternative pop, Lee from indie rock. “We came from different musical worlds, but bonded straight away over Amy Winehouse, Gorillaz and Arctic Monkeys,” recalls Mel.

That immediate connection led to lahgo’s first show a month later: a sold-out show at Oxford Art Factory Main Stage. Their first co-write, ‘Shallow Hellos’, set the tone for what would follow—a personal reflection on social anxiety and the search for people who make you feel understood.

They’ve since sold out three Sydney headline shows across 2024–25 and supported DZ Deathrays, Don West and Le Shiv. Their 2026 run includes supporting The Terrys and appearances at Party in the Paddock and Bonzaki Music Festival, with upcoming shows alongside The Living End, The Angels and The Superjesus.

Their distinct sound sits somewhere between No Doubt, Wet Leg and Paramore. Think alt-rock grit with pop instinct, unfiltered self-awareness and songs that hold a mirror up to people and relationships.

Following the announcement of their anticipated new EP, lahgo’s upcoming national tour captures the band at a defining moment.

“lahgo comes from the Filipino word malaago, meaning ‘to flourish’,” says Mel. “It’s about not having to shrink yourself to thrive. You can be loud, soft, furious, shy or messy. All of it belongs here.”"
